ParticipantYou can never be too casual for Cat 6. I’m coming in a button-down shirt and khakis with the pant leg rolled up.

ParticipantBack in the 80’s I took my bike on Amtrak from Wisconsin Dells to Red Wing, MN. I popped off the front wheel and told them to measure it. It fit the dimensions of carry-on baggage. Since it was about 11 at night and I getting off in a few hours, the conductor just said “Screw it,” and stuck it in the area between cars.

ParticipantAs tempting as this sounds, I already have 5 road bikes from the 70’s and 80’s. The wife suggests I have reached my N. :p
I would think that Phoenix Bikes might be interested in a donation like this.DismalScientist
ParticipantAt about 9:00 pm, the W&OD was gated at the intersection with the Custis. Went through anyway. No problems to Ohio St.
Just try to catch me coppers….

ParticipantThey put a a sign at the junction of the MVT and Roosevelt Bridge a couple of weeks ago.

ParticipantWhy don’t you shave one leg and try to determine the difference in aerodynamic drag?

ParticipantIt’s much easier to roll up your khakis than to try to stuff them in your sock. :p
I ride for convenience with contemporaneous exercise as a byproduct. I am not a fan of bike lanes, salmoning, ignoring traffic rules (by drivers and cyclists), lycra, bicycles designed after 1990, and evangelical environmentalism.

ParticipantHave you thought about changing the chain rings instead? I ride something like a 50-45-26 crank and a 14-28 freewheel. I never use the granny around town, but I can climb walls with it if needed. Having a half-step granny gives lots of different gear ratios for cruising. I would worry about shifting performance with such a large rear cog, but, of course, I am not all that familiar with new technology. My newest bike is celebrating its 20th birthday! Hell, I would take off the integrated shifters/levers and stick a pair of old-fashioned friction shifters on the downtube, as God intended…

Participant15 with lights and traffic. But I’ll speed up next time if I see anyone on a mountain bike with a child seat who is wearing flip flops.

ParticipantThere is a broken/low hanging branch on the Custis trail just east of Jefferson St. I pity the fool without lights tonight.

ParticipantWhile we are on the subject of the intersection of the Mount Vernon trail and Roosevelt bridge, has anyone investigated putting in directional signs? Just last week I had to give directions to some confused cyclist trying to stay on the MV trail.

ParticipantI got caught in a hailstorm while touring in Colorado. I can’t say there was any redeeming features of that particular storm. It is really hard to protect your entire body with a helmet.

ParticipantYour iron butt developed from riding the trails triggers it.
