Then what did you mean by “we?”
The advantage of the word “we” is that I can propose something without making any commitment to actually do something. It seems that my years in the bureaucracy have not been for naught.

Pointless Prizes are established from the grass roots. It’s not too late for you to offer one for this year if you like. Just let accordioneur know and he can add it to the list.Geez… I am not even participating this year.

ParticipantNext year, we just need to establish a pointless prize for the post exhibiting the most sanctimonious whine or the most ridiculous bloviation.

ParticipantI can’t imagine the sample selection issues introduced by advertising this survey on this forum.

ParticipantI think the actual point is that if, as an extreme, all of those hit from behind deaths occurred on rural roads, the study might be worthless when it comes to a discussion of urban bike lanes.

ParticipantI’ll just leave this right here:

ParticipantHopefully things will turn out better for FS2020 given all the rancor on the other thread.

Yes. However, any reflector interacts with any light, and cars have been required to have headlights since forever (citation needed). Let’s just say we passed a victim-blaming law that said every cyclist had to ride with a Don’t Kill Me Beacon and every car had to have a Cyclist Sensor (And I like my typo in the previous post, I’m not fixing that). What would that COST? It would realistically be YEARS before every bike and every car had the right equipment. And you know that UPS would lobby against having to put Cyclist Sensors in their trucks, and they’d be made exempt. USPS would be the same. WMATA buses. Police cars. Range Rovers.
It’s just another expensive tech solution to a problem that could be solved by punishing drivers for dangerous behavior.
Methinks you took my comment more seriously than it deserved. It was merely intended as snarky pedantry.

I don’t object to cyclists being visible. I encourage lots of lights and reflective gear. What I object to is specific gear requirements to interact with special gear we’ll put in cars so that drivers can say “well, my Cyclist Censor didn’t see you, so it’s not my fault I ran you over”.
But wait a minute….
Don’t reflectors and reflective gear interact with special gear called headlights that are put in cars?:rolleyes:September 19, 2019 at 10:23 pm in reply to: Four Mile Run Trail Detour between Meade and Lang #1100577DismalScientist
ParticipantBut the alternate routes have a hill, which is good for the soul.

Best way around this heading west from DC is go through the Crystal City Connector and ride up 20th Street to Arlington Ridge Road and then absolutely bomb down to behind the Giant and then pick up the trail after/before the detour.
Or just go across Arlington Ridge down to Army Navy and pick up the trail again at Glebe and Glebe.

They did a crappy, crappy job of signing the detour. I knew the way I SHOULD go but I followed the official signs and it took me out to Wilson.
This reminds me of the movie Deliverance. If you listen closely, you can hear the banjos playing in the neighborhood. Be very careful.

I can’t remember his name, but there is welder in Arlington who advertises regularly on Craigslist. He did some work on a steel frame for me at a reasonable price.

His name is Bruce. Did fine work on my steel frame as well.

ParticipantNot that this really bothers me, but why did they put the traffic light at that location on Wilson rather than just at the intersection with Manchester. BTW, this would not be a “mid-block” crossing of Wilson and there is an implied crosswalk at Manchester.

Try more like 80 years of purely political promotion of the diamond frame. UCI banned recumbents from competition in the 1930s after some Cat-2 French racer broke the hour record on one.
Well, it’s pretty easy to hide a motor in a fully-faired recumbent.
BTW, why is there a freewheel hanging in an 1890’s bicycle shop? The first derailleurs didn’t come around until the 1930s.
