ParticipantYup. In all we had 9 people show up during the time… 4 of us were Bike Ambassadors. Great conversations and great to listen to people.
We’ll do it again next month.

Today I discovered how Rockville plans on repelling the pending invasion of White Walkers. This mountain of plowed snow will take at least a month to melt. WINTER IS HERE. #gameofsnows

This pile is at the far north end of Seven Locks road and blocks a cut-through trail to Falls Road that is part of my daily route…at least it was. The detour to Wootton and back is the only option beyond treking around the pile, over a stream, and through tangles of branches and vines (which is what my foolish a** did this morning).
All you need is a LOT Of momentum.

ParticipantWheeeee! I’m riding on the highway!!!
(Not really. It is actually Arlington Blvd. Felt like the highway though. If only the path were plowed.February 19, 2014 at 9:10 pm in reply to: Thursday Coffee Club with the WABA Bike Ambassadors: 02/20/2014 7:30-9am #994148Dirt

Just curious what time the Washington Post reporter thought bike commuters went to work?
She drove to the interview and got stuck in traffic.
Her original plan was just to talk with me. I asked her to show up early and talk to some other folks that were there ’cause I’m freaking borrrrrinnnngggggg. Worked out well.

ParticipantThe plow had been up the W&OD between Columbia Pike and EFC Metro between 7 and 9am this morning. They scraped some of the icy spots in the rain.

ParticipantKel and RandoGuy were there when the reporter arrived. It was fantastic to have someone other than me to talk to her.
Thanks so much for taking a few minutes to talk.
Good to see y’all this morning!

ParticipantA reporter from the Washington Post may join us this morning to talk to us about winter bike commuting.

ParticipantArlington Crews are still working on this at night:
Ice forces cars to park in the bike lane.
Custis still has some icy spots, but they’re melting. Custis and W&OD was plowed again between 9 and 10am this morning.
Big icy spot going under I-66 on Custis. be careful. It is melting, but still kind of tough.
W&OD in the sun is clear. Brandymore Castle climb is still icy on both sides.Hugs and Kisses,
Pete
PS: Thanks Arlington! Your snow removal on the trails is awesome.

Your blog post was passed along to the VDOT folks by one of the Arlington planners. I’ll let you know if we hear anything. Even if the trails don’t get cleared, removing some of the four foot walls will help later on in the week.
That’s exactly the reaction I was hoping for. Lots of people are still using the trail… even where it is quite disgusting. Having to deal with the piles of ice and snow makes it really easy to stumble out into traffic.
Thanks Tim! You are awesome.
