ParticipantDidn’t need studs this morning. I used cross tires and they were plenty good. 700x35c Kenda Small Block 8’s are sticky enough that they do well with wet pavement and snow on top. The Mt. Vernon boardwalks were slick as snot. I rode across them and had no trouble. I saw (and photographed) the snow-death-angel where someone appears to have taken a digger on the slippery boards.
If the trails are still wet tonight, they’ll be icy tomorrow.

ParticipantFrom your area code, I’m guessing it was taken when you were downtown? Flat bars or drop? Brakes?
I’ll keep my eyes out. Sorry for your loss.
Dirt
ParticipantCool. I’ve been contemplating switching the cargo bike over to Apex. I kinda like the way it looks and that I can use drop-bar levers with it.
Glad they got it working for you.
Dirt
ParticipantThanks Mark. I’m glad they’re not doing a managed hunt in Bluemont.
Dirt
ParticipantThey purged the irrigation system and it poured out onto the trail and road. It was all fixed today and the trail was clear.
Dirt
ParticipantVery cool info, Joe. Kennedy Center is preparing a test ground for you to give them a workout.
Dirt
ParticipantIt is worse today. There’s a 20′ section at the end of the Roosevelt Bridge that is solid ice.
Dirt
ParticipantI love that climb, but it takes 2-3 miles of level riding just to connect it into a loop. I prefer to stay further north where the hills kill you over and over with little or no time for recovery.
Dirt
ParticipantI’m rarely in a presentable state at any time, but I’m really not fit to be seen or work after an 8-mile ride in work clothes. Not sure how I’d do it if I didn’t have locker space at the office to store all my work clothes. I’d probably cart them back and forth every day. The key to leaving stuff at work is having a good cleaner near the office. I drop off a bag of clothes on Fridays and pick them up on Monday afternoon.
Dirt
ParticipantI haven’t heard back from them yet. If I don’t get a satisfactory answer, I’ll post up. Hopefully this will be a “Yeah, we got that under control. Sorry ’bout that.” response. The sidewalk would be passable for a walker who is careful. A cyclist with good winter riding skills could have crossed it without too much incident. Experiencing that much ice isn’t unusual… doing so because they’re watering the lawn when it is 28 degrees out is kinda silly.

ParticipantFairfax was getting rid of Bambi. Falls Church eradicated Thumper. The bushes that are home to tons of rabbits were mowed down this week. I guess they gotta keep the creatures in check somehow. Can’t we just re-introduce wolves into suburbia and let nature take its course???
Dirt
ParticipantPerhaps, sir. Looks like we’re cold and dry through the weekend. My kind of weather.
Dirt
ParticipantActually the sign gave more information this morning. The Teddy Roosevelt Memorial will be renovated from 12/20/2010 through 06/2011.
No drug rehab program is being offered by the National Park Service.
Sorry for the false alarm.
Pete
Dirt
ParticipantOnly ice I found was at 2 intersections in my neighborhood in Falls Church. Plenty of wet leaves though.
Ride with a death wish!!!!
(Just kidding about that last part)
Dirt
ParticipantI sacrificed a live chicken and paid a small sum of money to the Ukrainian mafia.
