Saw someone get naturally selected today. Not a pleasant experience for anyone involved. It was at an intersection where someone was questioning why there was any enforcement at all. I guess that answers the question.

    Greetings!

Fat tires are wonderful. The 700c tires on your hybrid are usually measured in millimeters. Typically they are between 28 and 35mm. With the advent of 29er mountain bikes, there are 700c tires that can be as much as 2.5″ wide…. much wider than your bike can handle. You should be able to get tires in the 45-50mm range that will work well with your bike. Most bike shops will not stock tires like this, but many will be able to order them for you.

I can look up more specifics later today if you like.

Thanks for the info on the trail.

    Pete

I’m sorry you crashed today. I hope you’re okay.

The No Right on Red sign would help more than the “Yield to people in the crosswalk” sign, but still doesn’t solve the problem. When turning right on red, most people look hard to the left and in the exact opposite direction that they are traveling and away from the sign. They do this all while driving right into the crosswalk. It is a perfect storm of an intersection that is repeated all over the metropolitan area.

How does a bicycle beat a speeding ticket? I’ve always assumed that speed limits apply to bikes as well. Maybe something about bikes not required to have speedometers, so there’s no expectation that they know how fast they’re going?

Getting the judge to laugh helps. ;)

Bluemont underpass was axle-deep and almost white water when I went through.

Custis going under I-66 at Mile marker 0 was 6″ deep and a rushing torrent for a few minutes.

I still love and respect all mankind. I mean that seriously. I see that what people are in their cars is not always what they are as people. There’s something to love and respect in all of us… even if people do a good job of hiding it.

It took me most of the day to get out of my road-rage-induced funk. I’m there in time to go out and play in the rain. :D

My encounter this morning involved a woman whose phone call and coffee consumption was more important than stopping at the traffic light, looking where she was going or having a hand on the wheel. After I pounded on her window, she did put her coffee cup down so that she could steer the car. I’m grateful for that. :D

It was nice this morning. Didn’t want to turn into the office today.

No need to worry what others do. Awesome that you’re getting the time in the saddle. I think most of us wish we could ride more than we do. Great job!

Agree. I’d rather have lung damage than live my life based on a weather report.

The damage done to me by not riding isn’t always visible. I feel it though. I guess that answers the “Why do you still ride after being hit by cars so many times?” question too.
