ParticipantWent to the opening event today and their demo ebikes were well organized, they had a Yepp seat on the back of one which my 2yo got to try first time on the back of a bike – the Stretch cargo ebike set up with a rack cushion, two 24” wheel ebikes for shorter people which my wife got to try out, the trike, plus their regular line of cruisers and eMTBs

ParticipantNuanced discussion of this issue on the Bicycle Dutch blog, and on Reddit. Makes me want to get a trike or recumbent when I retire, falls in the elderly can be deadly.

ParticipantArizona has passed the People for Bikes 3-class legislation to regulate ebikes, becoming the ninth US state to do so.

ParticipantThese posts reinforce the need to check controls and brakes before riding off on a dockless bikeshare bike or scooter:
Brake lines cut on dockless bikeshare bikes in Seattle
Power lines cut on ebikeshare scooter in San FransiscoDewey
ParticipantInteresting read from Portland 10 reasons why Uber buying JUMP may be a good thing for urban transit. Re: reasons #2, 4 & 7,
#2 Policy: Uber has the clout to ease regulation of pedelecs/Class 1 ebikes in cities where JUMP operates.
#4 Driver network: will we see Uber cars fitted with bike racks to redistribute dockless ebikeshare bikes?
#7 I’d love to see JUMP introduce cargo ebikeshare similar to Donk-EE in Cologne.Dewey
ParticipantThe 2017 National Electric Bike Owner Survey carried out by the Transportation Research and Education Center (TREC) at Portland State University has been published, lots of interesting data!

ParticipantEncouraging news, the District should be aiming for equity and legalize Motorized Bicycles riding on sidewalks outside the business district. Thank you Jim Sebastian and DC DDoT for looking at updating DC regulations.

ParticipantThis morning’s commute was marked with a typical MetroRail SNAFU in Virginia so I took CaBi in to Foggy Bottom and I was pleasantly surprised to see two Lime-S scotters and one mobike outside the front door to work, as they don’t operate in VA this was DC folk getting around, DoBi appears to be complementing CaBi nicely.

ParticipantGGW reviewed the Lime-E ebikeshare bike and compared it to its competitor from JUMP. Wow what a piece of garbage: single speed, mushy brakes that are worse than the JUMP ebike’s roller brakes, weak motor assist that can’t climb hills – I wonder if they went with the cheapest 24v hub motor? Hitherto I’ve thought of ebikeshare as a great ambassador, but if a cyclist got on a Lime-E they might develop completely the wrong idea about ebikes. By contrast JUMP clearly have thought about how people might use an ebike travelling around DC.

But not in the UK, mustn’t grumble…(sotto voce: bloody tories)
