Quartz had an interesting article on the lifespan of Bird Scooters in Louisville, KY.
https://qz.com/1561654/how-long-does-a-scooter-last-less-than-a-month-louisville-data-suggests/

The authors found that the average scooter had a lifespan of 28.8 days and traveled 163.2 miles over 92 trips. They also estimated that Bird lost $293 per scooter.

I recall reading somewhere that someone analyzed Lime data in DC and estimated those scooters lasted about 28 days.

I like that scooters are getting people out of cars and provide another great option for short trips. I’m a little concerned about how much waste might be involved.

Yep – they removed (but set aside in the planters) the protection this morning, and repaved. (That section of street sorely needed it after the 100K construction.) It would’ve been nice if they did something even temporary today to separate things, but hopefully they’ll reinstall the protection and restripe tomorrow AM.

Agreed – it was in need of repair. Hopefully they’ll do something early tomorrow, especially for the folks that will be heading contraflow when the protected lane and green paint ends.

It looks like they repaved that entire section of street. They removed a portion of the protected bike lane.

I stopped by Right Proper’s other location in Shaw and had their Wild Wolves. Right Proper’s beer is consistently good, and this one didn’t disappoint.

I stopped at the Right Proper Brookland Production House on the way home tonight. I’m not a huge fan of radlers, but the Vintage Kodachrome Dream(ing), one of their taproom exclusives, was excellent.

I stopped at Franklins in Hyattsville yesterday. Franklins beer is alway solid. The Amber Reign, a hoppy amber, didn’t disappoint.

It looks like about 60 people are missing.

After reauthorizing, I was able to get back on.

Same. I got dropped as well. I just reauthorized. So, I hope that works.

Thank you for the clarification on safe accommodation requirements, LhasaCM. A temporary cycletrack on the eastern side would’ve been preferable to taking the sidewalk. But on the whole, it was far less harrowing than other bike lane closures.

I’m interested to see what it’s like tonight. It could be very different if the lane’s still closed, but no one’s there to alert folks.

A construction crew closed the First St NE cycle track between L St and K St this morning.

They were ripping up the pavement with some heavy equipment near the intersection at K St. Based on the time of year, I thought it may be utility work. However, the pavement there had gotten pretty beaten up during the construction of the newish building there, so maybe they were repairing it.

I’m not sure what safe accommodations requires, but they had someone on either end directing cyclists onto the sidewalk, which was better than what I’ve seen under some similar circumstances.

Thank you for the clarification! That’s what I initially thought when I read Henry’s post, and I saw a few posts commenting on not being able to make up missed miles later, but I wanted to make sure.
