That’s funny, I thought you were talking about Our Streets (formerly How’s My Driving), but this is another one.
The more the merrier. Safe Lane’s ability to constantly gather data is appealing. However, I wonder how much traffic cameras and bike lanes overlap in the area.

People are being good about never posting anything on Facebook that isn’t also posted here. The Facebook group is essentially for those who check Facebook, but not the forum, regularly, to let them know when there is an important announcement on the forum they need to look at.
Good to hear. Thank you for the clarification.
I love Freezing Saddles. Not enough, however, to sign back up for Facebook.

ParticipantThank you, komorebi! I look forward to picking one up at the happy hour.

Not everyone is on FB, so the forum needs to be copied if you want to reach everyone, and remains the official hub of communications.
Is there a way to monitor the additional announcements and communications without signing up for Facebook?
If so, I’m down. If not, I hope relevant information gets a duplicate post on the forum.

ParticipantI’m sad that the Bike Rack will be closing their Q St NW location today. I bought my current bike from them. I received excellent service over the years from their awesome staff.
They sent the following message today:
Thank You
After 13 amazing years Bike Rack is shutting it’s doors today.
Thank you everyone that has stepped foot in our store. Thank you everyone that has come on any of our rides. Thank you every single customer we have ever had. And thank you to all of our employees past end present for making the Bike Rack what it is.
If we have your bike in the shop we will be in contact.

ParticipantI’ve been using an older version of the Fly6 for over two years and the latest version of the Fly12 CE for just shy of a year. They’ve been used on my daily commute and some recreational rides, year-round, in all kinds of weather.
They’ve both worked great. I may be lucky, but I haven’t run into the quality issues other users have reported here and on other forums. There are design elements that could be improved (I think some of the features I like least about the Fly6, like the velcro strap and video quality, were improved on the Fly6 CE). They are expensive. However, the design lends itself well to bike commuting. They would work well as the Russian dashcam you’re looking for.
I used a GoPro Session 5 before getting the Fly12. It had slightly better video quality, and was more compact, but the battery life meant I needed to charge it at least one time a day. I still use it regularly, just not for my daily commute.

. . . The City of Richmond is buddies with a towing company that impounded 300 or so Bird scooters and will auction them in two weeks.
When your scooter company relies on an act-first-ask-forgiveness-later deployment strategy ( https://fortune.com/2018/10/09/bird-ceo-scooters-laws/ ), you’re bound to get burned occasionally. A towing company, contracted by the city and at the order of the city, impounding scooters from a company ignoring cease and desist letters doesn’t sound all that nefarious ( https://richmondbizsense.com/2019/07/11/flipping-birds-flock-impounded-scooters-headed-auction/ ).

It’s not the action of the driver that was disturbing, but rather of the NYPD that speaks volumes.
The driver’s actions were disturbing too. Aside from repeatedly ramming a person with his car, speed cameras ticketed him 11 times for speeding in a school zone, and he was driving without a license. He is an example of why jurisdictions should be exploring ways to target additional remedial efforts at aggressive and reckless drivers that rack up large numbers of automated tickets.
The Gothamist article linked in the bicycling.com story also provides a little more context on why the NYPD traffic enforcement officer didn’t stop the driver ( https://gothamist.com/2019/06/08/fdny_officer_rammed_cyclist.php ). The officer in the video was an NYPD Traffic Enforcement Agent, who is a civilian employee with less power than a police officer (e.g., writing parking tickets, directing traffic). Internet sleuths found a streetview image of Brauley De La Rosa’s car, which had a FDNY insignia on the windshield and an “Active Firefighter” placard on the dash. The Gothamist notes no one knows yet whether the NYPD van had NYPD officers or just other traffic enforcement agents. None of that excuses the agent from not taking additional action.

There’s an “improperly Parked” e-scooter thread on my Del Ray, Nextdoor app right now. All kinds of people advocating to saw it in half or throw it in the street or set it on fire or call the police… Only a few useful suggestions like move it 3 feet so it’s not in your way.
One can only hope that news of a scooter catching fire in DC, and causing minor damage to a nearby wall, tempered your neighbors’ alarmist comments.

Not a GoPro, but check out Cycliq, which captures both front and rear. They sometimes offer 20% off(Bike to work week?). Now they offer 10% for first order if you join their site.
I’ve had good experiences with both the Fly12 CE (the newer version of the Fly12) and an older version of the Fly6.
Cycliq’s currently running a 20% off promo through Sunday, June 2nd. The promo code is “SUBSCRIBER20”.

Check their facebook page. They’re open, but with VERY restricted hours. https://www.facebook.com/bikerackdc
Thank you, Emm. I saw that they’re expanding hours at the Q St location and really cutting down hours in Brookland.
PoPville reported that they were closing the location permanently at the end of June. I think they quoted the owner as saying the rent was too high relative to walk-in traffic. Since PoPville pulled the story down, I wasn’t sure if maybe the situation changed. I’m thinking the hour change is consistent with plans to close.
Next time I’m in, I’ll ask.

That plate has 5 other unpaid tickets for the past month in DC.
The 6 tickets are all from the same area too. I wonder if it was the driver or a passerby that moved the ticket from the car to your bike.

ParticipantQuartz had an interesting article on the lifespan of Bird Scooters in Louisville, KY.
https://qz.com/1561654/how-long-does-a-scooter-last-less-than-a-month-louisville-data-suggests/The authors found that the average scooter had a lifespan of 28.8 days and traveled 163.2 miles over 92 trips. They also estimated that Bird lost $293 per scooter.
I recall reading somewhere that someone analyzed Lime data in DC and estimated those scooters lasted about 28 days.
I like that scooters are getting people out of cars and provide another great option for short trips. I’m a little concerned about how much waste might be involved.
