It is ordinary spray paint as it was done several months ago. In past years, the NPS staff has painted over some of these markings with asphalt colored spray paint but that is likely going to wait for spring. Ideally, the NPS could work with the services and possibly install permanent markings along the trail for the fitness test distances, precluding the need for spray anything. That could involve other trail users to avoid potential conflicts (I’ve observed some fitness test run turnarounds at the intersection of the ramp up to the 14th Street Bridge).

I’ll send the GWMP folks a note with some suggestions.

I think it is the DOD Joint Staff marking the MVT for their periodic fitness tests. Seems to me that the GWMP might want to reach out to the services with some suggestions that don’t involve spray paint. I used to use spray chalk, which washed away in a couple of weeks.
