Hi, we are going to visit DC area in near future and would like to know if we can ride our e-bikes (pedal assist) on the paved bike paths and roads with bike lanes ?
Thanks for any information. We live in Tennessee where e-bikes are legal on streets and also multi-use trails if max speed is 20mph.To summarize – this topic seems to foster a degree of talmudic discussion. You will be fine if you follow the prime directive – “Don’t be a jerk.”

100% certain it was DDOT. They parked a couple work trucks (one towing a trailer) on the shoulder of the ramp from 95 south to GWPkwy westbound.
Sweet. DDOT did a great job on the 14th St Br today. Sucked this morning and clear on way home.

I plan on riding into work tomorrow but haven’t ridden along the MVT after a major precip/freeze event like last night’s. Any reports from tonight’s ride home? Any pointers for tomorrow morning?
Thanks!I rode 14th St Br to Crystal City Connector home this evening. Largely clear (>50%) of the trail width except for the shady areas. Portion along fence north of DCA north hanger had a lot of plowage thrown onto the trail by the GWMP plows.
You may have to flintstone a bit but I’d do it. Not sure what it is like south of Crystal City.
While the 14th St Br wasnt cleared this morning, it was clean this afternoon (thanks DDOT).
I was on my hybrid with a 32mm rear and a studded 35mm in front.

DDOT was out and cleared from the north side of humpback bridge all the way across the 14th St bridge.
DDOT or NPS?

ParticipantThe portions of the MVT that were to be cleared is a bit fuzzy right now. The GWMP staff were to present their plan to reps from a number of cycling orgs in Dec but it was delayed at the request of the NPS.
To keep the clearing effort manageable during the first year(s) of getting them on board, we held back on asking they clear the entire MVT:)
We suggested (as I recall) that a cleared path from Boundary Channel to the 14th Street Bridge (through the LBJ grove and marina parking lot) and from S Washington Blvd (by the Pentagon) to the Memorial Bridge would build on areas that are consistently cleared by others to connect the bridges to Arlington streets.

ParticipantWe are trying to get a handle on what got cleared on the Mount Vernon Trail this morning. If you rode on NPS GWMP property (pretty much all on the VA side of the Potomac) this morning, can you reply and say where, when and whether the trails had been cleared?
Thanks

ParticipantDid anybody ride the MVT south from Roosevelt Island? Where did the snow clearing start?

I’ll take this route home, I think. Depending on afternoon temps.
The wooden bridge might clear by then. The trail in the LBJ will probably be icy.

ParticipantHuzzah (sort of)!!!!
NPS GWMP did snow removal from Columbia Island Marina parking lot to the north side of the Humpback Bridge. Clearing of the MVT seemed to continue north towards the Mem Bridge as well. Unclear how far it went.
The “sort of” is that the clearing stopped at the north side of the Humpback and the bridge and the trail up to the 14th St Bridge was untouched.
DDOT seems to have forgotten the bike/ped lane on the bridge.
NPS was hit and miss around the Jefferson. Ramp down from 14th St Bridge untouched, sidewalk cleared till the bridge on Ohio Dr connecting the Tidal Basin to the Washington Channel. If you don’t want to put a tractor on the sidewalk, get a snowblower.

ParticipantI’ll take it.

ParticipantThought I saw Dirt on the Big Dummy heading west across 15th downtown about 1030 this morning. Had the kitty litter bucket on the left side but I didn’t see the CO license plate.

ParticipantI rode from NY to DC a few years ago with Climate Ride as part of Team WABA. The Climate Ride folks did a great job with support. WABA is a beneficiary again this year, but is listed under Virginia and Maryland for some reason. Statehood?

ParticipantThe NPS might want to look at the environmental review (I think it was an EA) they did a few years back about Gravelly Point. One of the key points in that study was an attempt to deconflict all of the uses at that particular location.
With all the development along the waterfront in SW DC, much of the viewshed has been compromised.
