ParticipantI think I’ll take part of the day off and join the ride from Proteus. Would love to ride out with a group from DC.
I will be starting in SW.

ParticipantI think Arlington Loop pretty much says it all. If we wanted to differentiate this from some other loop (such as the inner/outer loop of the beltway), we could formalize by saying Arlington Loop Trail or Arlington Loop Trail System (that would highlight the contribution of the FMR, W&OD, Custis and MVT)

I suppose DC really demands a Tour de Cupcake… versus Arlington’s Tour de Fro-yo, Cupcakes, Burgers, and Pizza.
I am thinking a multi-stage, regional Tour de Waistline that would include all the above

Would never be able to take a pic like that in a car…
You’re right. You see so much more at 15 mph than at 55 plus it is so much easier to pull over on a bike.
When I started riding I didn’t even think of that benefit!
Now if I could only learn to do a danger panda without the risk of bodily injury!

ParticipantInfo received from the NPS today. It appears the end is in sight. The sidewalk closure does present a tempting opportunity to boost one’s mileage by laps around Hains Point. Might get interesting if the cherry blossoms arrive before the barricades depart.
“Hi Dana,
The construction you are referring to is the result of electrical duct bank
work. We realize that this area is an important route for cyclists and
park visitors and that the construction is having an impact. The contractor
needs to have a portion of the sidewalk closed. They have placed all the
signs needed for this effort and re-routed the bikers and pedestrians
across the street. This is the only way for them to accomplish their task
since the hole they are digging is right at the approach to outlet bridge.
The plan is to re-open the sidewalk in March.Hope this information is helpful.

ParticipantIT issues kept me at the office till about 5:30. By that time, the rain had ended and the ride was sweeeet! Sunset was a pleasure (both the beauty and the fact the sun was still up). I’m liking these longer days.

ParticipantYou might want to visit Velo City coop (which is either in Old Town or Del Ray, they are moving to Del Ray) or Phoenix coop in Shirlington for a good deal on a used bike. Both generally have a wide selection that could be the move-up bike for you. Benefits to you include saving money and getting a good bike. Benefits to them is the revenue to help with their cycling programs.
Welcome to the community!

That looks like a revolting place to ride a bike.
While I am sure there are some great places to ride in the Orlando area, I didn’t see any. The roads were less inviting of cyclists than those we enjoy around here.
The only riding I got was one minute on a bike (that shifted badly and I was in street clothes) tied to a generator. We were attempting to get on the leaderboard for energy generation at a booth pushing energy efficiency (GE I believe). This was the guy after me.
He finished the minute sprint with about 4.3 watt hours of generation. Despite my size, I do a poor imitation of a draft animal.

Thanks for the reporting of the issue, DBB – looks like you have the touch.
Having the touch with electrical stuff often turns out badly!
It looks like the bridge belongs to VDOT but Arlington owns/maintains/pays the bill on the lights. That said, Arlington has to ask permission from VDOT to drill into the concrete bridge abutment.

Crap! Didn’t crop it enough to be harder. Next pic will show just 1 square foot of asphalt with a centerline stripe!

ParticipantKudos to dcv for thinking up this great thread!
A quick review of the forum suggests this thread is the second most replied thread on the forum at 101 replies (the highest seems to be 125 replies on the lights for bikes thread). It may also have the highest reply density (replies/day) as well as a very high reply/view ratio.
Here is were we need some baseball fans to come up with a host of forum specific descriptive statistics.
