i’d be much more willing to side with the “no trespassing” crowd if drivers weren’t allowed to park illegally en masse all over our neighborhoods every sunday. Including in bike lanes and, outrageously, blocking crosswalks and curb cuts in front of my wheelchair-bound neighbor’s house. For now, put me on team no one.

Also, a tax policy argument! Now my favorite procrastination website reads just like my work emails! With respect to the property tax exemption issue, the very second dc’s voter base flips i’m going to float my proposal to (a) eliminate the property tax exemption for churches and (b) grant an offsetting tax deduction/credit from your dc taxes for contributions to a qualified dc religious organization. Then dc’s citizens can stop subsidizing churches patronized principally by nonresidents, which near me are pretty terrible neighbors.

Got the little jerk. Though the juvenile justice system in DC is a travesty, so I fully expect he’ll be out and ready to re-offend in literally no time.

This, exactly. Glad they found the kid but there’ll be no accountability and it’ll happen again.

I just checked out of curiosity (I looked for it a few months ago for my brother) – it’s back: http://www.amazon.com/Filzer-Fork-Adapter-15mm-FA-15/dp/B005V1L2VE#

    $20 can’t be beat.

The adapters are surprisingly expensive but they work fine. I have one from “Filzer” which doesn’t seem to be sold in the US anymore but was a lot cheaper than the Yakima/Thule/Rockymounts options. I just throw a lock in the car if I’m expecting to stop for lunch where I can’t see the car.

Used BMW 3-series sportwagon. Not crazy hard to find in stick. Came in AWD, too.

My last car was an E46 330i which I loved to an irrational degree. I searched for 2 months to find the right one (you can’t imagine how hard it is to find a BMW that doesn’t have either leather or faux-leather interior) and intended to keep it forever, but then we moved to DC with street parking and I stopped driving to work. I didn’t want it to just sit on the street all the time. Sigh. As a result I don’t have the space or tools anymore to do my own maintenance and repairs to keep a Bimmer affordable to own. Since I just got back into car ownership a couple of months ago I got a euro-market Honda Accord wagon which I love, despite the automatic transmission. They’re not hard to find, you just have to know the trick to it (they have a badge that says “Acura TSX”).

To keep this remotely on topic here’s the bicycle I hung off the back of my sweet station wagon last weekend.

You and I seem to be in the same group that is sadden station wagons are no longer offered too much in the USA. Eveytime I am in the EU I go a bit geeky taking photos of wagons Accords, Civic, Mazda 6 and such.

My wife still thinks I’m crazy because I run around the auto show grumbling about all the cool wagons Europe gets that we don’t. And the ones that we do get, they don’t give us the manual transmission. Heathens…

I did Furnace Mountain for the first time this past fall. Didn’t realize it was gravel; the 23mm tires got some exercise.

I am sure the residents appreciate the improved surfaces.

A lot of them don’t want the improvement – http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/loudoun-wants-to-keep-its-historic-potholed-gravel-roads-unpaved/2014/02/14/ccdda5e0-94c8-11e3-84e1-27626c5ef5fb_story.html

    Who is Bernie’s human caretaker?

Bernie belongs to Erin of team Sticky Fingers. In that pic that’s my wife watching him while Erin tears it up on course.

The two, combined, present a good challenge. I don’t know that anyone will ever top the Bern.

Those are good bikes and great deals. If one fits you, buy it. You won’t find deals like that in a long time.

I was there until about 1:30 and camped out near the top of the chute for a while (there was a FIRE!) and then back down to the bottom of the chute to watch the muddy wipe outs (I was the girl with the two Shibas if anyone saw me).

It was an awesome day of racing and spectating (spectating on my part, I will stick to mountain bike racing!).

Hope to see some of you guys out at the Bikenetic race next weekend!

I’m pretty sure I’ve insisted on petting your dogs at the races this season at least once… one is more people-friendly than the other if I remember correctly. They are adorable and challenge Bernie for best race dog.

    Counters. Temporary though, not permanent.
