ParticipantIt seems he got a similar punishment as the driver of a motor vehicle with no prior similar incidents. So regardless of what I think about the sentence itself, I’m glad it’s at least relatively consistent.

Second, at least in VA, we reward smug wealthy people that can afford a new Prius the right to drive on HOV lanes alone. HOV lanes should be about rewarding people to car pool not rewarding wealthy people who can afford a new car. Moreover, on the freeway, the Prius is engaging the gas engine so burning about the same amount of fuel as other compact cars. Even though I obviously ride my bike to work many days, while riding on the Custis and when I do take the Orange Line, I see plenty of selfish Prius drivers alone and afraid to car pool doing nothing more for the environment than a solitary driver in a compact Ford or Honda would.
This isn’t strictly true anymore – hybrids with a “clean fuel” tag issued after 2011 (don’t recall exact month/date) aren’t exempt from the HOV restrictions on 395 or 66. Those from earlier years are grandfathered in.

Of course. Skylarks should be blue or burgundy.
Now, in the ’60’s, there were only two other cars made in America that had positraction, and independent rear suspension, and enough power to make these marks. One was the Corvette, which could never be confused with the Buick Skylark. The other had the same body length, height, width, weight, wheel base, and wheel track as the ’64 Skylark, and that was the 1963 Pontiac Tempest.

ParticipantI agree with dasgeh in that confirmation bias is at work here. If you head out expecting one group to be crappy you will notice it more. Except for MD drivers. They really are the worst.

ParticipantGlad you’re okay.
CALL THE DAMN COPS.
Nothing will ever improve if there is no record of the situation and the driver is unaccountable.

McMansion in a block of bungaloes? For shame, dasgeh.
Pretty much the opposite of that.

Remember all – don’t look directly at it.
TWDC – you are totally 6:30 material.

Is there a minimum amount of time you have to leave a CaBi bike docked before the 30 minute timer resets? For instance, if I’m on a trip that I know will last longer than 30 minutes, can I find a station at the 29 minute mark, dock the bike, and then immediately undock the bike and continue on for another 30 minutes? Or do I have to wait for the bike to ‘cool down’ for some period of time before undocking it?
Is there a term for this strategy?
Totally legit. I don’t know that it has a name… dock hopping?

Agreed – it was a great ride. Many thanks to dasgeh for organizing and leading the way!
Can’t wait to see some pictures/video whenever they’re available.
Also, DaveK – where were you? I saw Mark B. at Gravelly Pt. but didn’t know you were around too.
My wife and I were out there with Mark and Megan, Mark and I were headed off for some mountain-ish bicycling but Mark stuck around to get some shots of the group. My wife happened to be driving by after picking up someone from the airport so she stopped to say hi.

She’s a fan of Japanese family sedans, that’s for sure.

The GoPro mounted on the front fork picks up a low rumbling sound from the ground, but you only hear that if the motor is off. when the motor is on you hear a light whining noise, that again the gopro picks up and amplifies it. The camera being low to the ground gives the illusion that I’m going fast, but im not.
I thought it sounded like George Jetson’s car…

This morning’s excitement brought to me by the US Capitol Police. No, nothing bad. I happened upon a squad of them riding over memorial bridge, in formation. They were moving slightly faster than I was, so they passed me, most courteously, on the bridge. I hung with them to the Lincoln memorial, where we rode opposite sides of the reflecting pool. Met them again on Jefferson St. and I lost them on the Air and Space sprint (I really like to make the light at 4th st.)
I have a sneaky suspicion that it may have been a training exercise, because they didn’t even seem to blink when a fellow rider blew through the light at 7th st.
I’ve hooked on to one of their training rides (or rather they asked if they could pace behind me) from the 14th St Bridge at the Jefferson over to VA, up the MVT to Memorial Circle, and up to Iwo Jima. It is very easy to get across the GW Parkway when you’re in front of a platoon of guys with guns.
