Sorry for the close call. My older daughter (age 11, with Down Syndrome) now calls everybody “Dude” because of years of sitting in the car with her dad driving. She’ll meet an old lady can say “Hi, dude!”
I’ve got a friend who’s 4 year old knows the appropriate situations to yell “Jackass!!” from the backseat.

I figure I’ll sign up regardless. When I volunteered, it was SUPER hot (the weekend after the “derecho”) and a lot of the riders who had signed up for the 200M switched over to the 200K. The organizers didn’t seem to mind, as long as the riders notified the volunteers. They *really* did a great job, they had every single rider accounted for, even ones who lived near the route and had bailed out of the ride.
Actually it was the morning directly after the derecho came through. I almost didnt make it cause no gas stations were open and I was running on fumes to get down there. Plus there was constant debris on the shoulders that kept us out further into the roads when it was less than optimal. Trees down everywhere in the more remote sections too. Still much fun was had!!

ParticipantI wonder if Arlington Cinema Drunk house could be talked into it. They’ve had great turn out for bikecentric movies in the past.

ParticipantCertifried- I tried it twice and it was actually cooler this year than the first year I tried.
I did the 200k last year, and it wasnt too bad. I blew up at the 160 mile mark a couple of years ago due to heat and my stomach locking up.
So, I’ve already signed up (sigh) again. Cause if it *really* hurts, why wouldnt want to keep doing it.

Had a great time, met Tim, Mark & Will on the starting grid. Looked for ACC and Pete but didn’t see them. Thought I saw / heard Culimerc and Arlingtonrider cheering (was that you guys?), you guys are so awesome. Thanks for coming out and cheering, you made me push harder. I didn’t podium but wasn’t last, will do again.
Oh I’m pretty sure you heard me. I was the one bellowing DCV!! every time you came towards the finishing line, and I was also the one giving Mark a hard time for you passing him.

ParticipantLast year I raced the 4’s and managed to not get lapped or finish dead last in 4 laps.

ParticipantNow this is a non-competitive event I can get behind.

Once you assume that exercise is a fixed cost, you have assumed your answer. I’m sure that there are some folks out there who wouldn’t be exercising as much if they did not ride bicycles regularly.
Problem is that exercise is not a fixed cost. As you become more fit you become more efficient, both in movement (actual pedaling/ bike handling) and in converting food to calories to miles, and decrease your waste (CO2) by not working as hard for the same output.

ParticipantThe increase in weight is due to Oxygen molecules being added to the weight of the waste product.

I tried a rookie race last year at DCCX. It seems like an easy process as long you’re not worried about winning or anything. Just start at the back, wait for the traffic to clear, and move up if you can/wish later.
I was in that race!! good times!!
