Tonight I rolled through Falls Church on the WOD and at every street crossing the cars in both directions waited for me.

I missed getting taken out at Church street in Vienna tonight by less than a foot.

I don’t understand what cycling sandals offer that you can’t get with regular sandals and flat pedals. But in have never tried them, so likely there is something I am missing.

Stiffer soles, basically they are touring shoes that dont fit quite as well.

I’ve got the Ortlieb Back rollers. They carry everything and then some. Commuting, I carry my boat anchor of a laptop, and clothes in on side and everything else in the other. It helps keep my clothes a little nicer that way and reduces the chances of getting spots and stains on them during transport. I rode with my laptop during the deluge on BTWD. I actually walked through a flooded portion of a trail that topped the panniers, everything was still dry as a bone when I got to work.

During my GAP/C&O trip, I was able to carry all my stuff in one side and all the little missus’ stuff in the other. 10 kits, walk around clothes for 2, shoes, snacks, flat kits, etc etc etc and still had room for more.

I <3 my Ortliebs (and the orange color actually makes your bike faster)

I’d be a little surprised if 25% of men 30- 49 in urban areas between the hours of 9 pm and 3 am weren’t drunk. Bikes or no bikes.

You may want to check out the various bike co-ops for a bike. They may not have what you *want* but they’ll probably have what you need. (queue Rolling Stones)

A friend of mine has one of these. The front light is really more of a safety light than a functional one. Between the weak LED and the diffusing plastic lens, it really doesn’t throw enough light to be anything more than a Please don’t run me over light. So, not a lot of concern about blinding people. Very convenient to have though, especially as its starts getting darker earlier than you expect, you never get caught without some sort of light. Probably really nice to have in the city, where you have street lights to see the road with.

My dad actually owns one of the gravity bikes. Its’ nice enough for the price. It’s just your basic bike. Nicer than Cosco/Walmart mart, not as nice as Trek/Specialized.

So what’s your read on the “beginner” races that I see listed on some events. (Most don’t have rookie races though as you noted DCCX does.) They’re listed as Cat 4/5. Now you couldn’t pay me to race a Cat 4/5 crit. Have you watched or participated in any of these beginner CX races?

CX is different. By 1/2 way through the first lap the field pretty much sorts itself out enought so that at anytime there’s only a couple of people around you. much more room, much slower speeds, much softer ground. Short answer is DOOO EEEET!

While cleaning my old Poprad for the winter, I noticed cracks on the rear rim adjacent to just about every eyelet. I bet it has been this way for a while and could still be ridden, but please confirm for me I am not over reacting by tossing it out.

The rim is a Salsa Delagdo cross with nearly 10 years on it. Many on the internet complain about this bitterly, however, I am not upset. I got many years, lots of miles and beat the tar out of this wheel.

I am going to rebuild the White Industries ENO hub with an Alpha 440.

    R.I.P.

Salsa may warranty it if your lucky.
