I’m trying to keep it down to a 5 day tour rather than a six day.

    Oh enwizzened peanut gallery-

Riding the GAP, coming from Pitts on the first day, Ohiopyle is @ mile 72. Which would seem like a good place to stop, I’ll be riding with riders that are maybe not as strong as some others. Considering the lack of choices in Ohiopyle, is it worth it to stretch the day out and ride 11 miles to Confluence, which is larger and would offer maybe nicer food and lodging choices.

Considering a 10 mph pace, plus breaks, we’re talking about a 9-10 hour day in the saddle. After the one long day, the rest of the days would be 60-65 miles ea.

Slackers should be renamed the Ringers because they are chock full of ass-kicking winter riders. HUGE advantage to be paired with them. :D

I usually take off out of the bat-cave just before 7am. Tomorrow I could be talked into a downtown commute.

Those of you (us?) that have stayed in inns along the route from Pitt to DC; Any suggestions or recommendations on hotels or inns?

I’m planning my own Pitt to DC ride for the fall.

And/or the next Team Challenge could be Civil War related. Like visiting as many forts as possible.

Or we (VA vs MD) could try to ride each other into the ditch (completely by accident of course), during our random sightings, which ever side has the most people from the other side in the ditch “wins”!

    Ok maybe not.

My DH bike has been hanging off one for years, and it weighs about 45 pounds. I’m guessing the rating is very conservative. They are very heavy duty.

All of my rides are hanging off the same hooks. My guess is that you could put up 80+ lbs on these things w/out too much trouble.

We put an addition on a couple of years ago. Kitchen upstairs, Bike room with direct access to outside downstairs.

Its not so much the cold that’s keeping me off my bike as the prospect of an after dark commute on the WOD covered in ice and ruts. The potential for disaster is just a little too high for me. So if it would warm up just long enough to clear the trail, then it can get cold again, I’d be fine with that.

Spokes is an official Salsa dealer I believe. I can not speak highly enough about the salsa vaya. I bought one from Competetive Cyclist and it was comfy and did everything I asked from day one. The only thing I had to change was the Avid BB5 disc brakes were a pain in the neck. They went out of tune *really* fast. I upgraded to the BB7’s. They were more reliable and easier to adjust. The Vaya will also fit upto at least a 45, if not wider.

My wife has a Coda and while we really do like it the widest tires I can get in there are 32’s and even then I have to inflate them while the wheels are mounted in the frame. That is with V-brakes tho. Discs would solve that problem.

The Oxen Hill Bike Club sponsored rides and the Backroads Century really are my favorites. The routes are nice and rolling, and the stops have some variety to them food wise. The Reston is one of my least favorites in the area, because of the sheer number of people involved and the amount of time spent on the WOD. Too many people of too wide a skill and strength range on too small a path. That said I havent done a Reston century in 4 years I think.
