ParticipantHi guys, I’m Chris, I live in S Arlington, near Shirlington (home of Weenie Beanie), and work downtown. Nine miles door to door which means a lot of 28 point days. I’ve been doing this bike commuting in DC thing for over 10 years now and except for a few incidents (that one time a squirrel darted INTO my spokes on 4MRT) it’s working out pretty well. This is my third year doing BAFS and have met a lot of cool people so far so hopefully you all won’t disappoint! (kidding
)
I also do a decent amount of non-commuting riding and love getting out to Loudoun and Fauquier on weekends and less frequently to Shenandoah and the greater Blue Ridge. Things I like: bikepacking, gravel riding, group rides, cx racing, and all the bikes and gear all that involves. I also enjoy capturing my rides and the bikes I come across which I sometimes post here… https://www.instagram.com/ctankcycles/.
Btw, I would have had 10ish more miles on Saturday but I got hit by a car (I’m ok) which then ran over my front wheel. It’s kind of a crazy story. I’ll tell you all about it, at happy hour, which we need to schedule. Right Proper, 100 Montaditos, Bluejacket, and Glen’s are all HH spots that work well with bikes (and people wearing bike stuff). Oh, and Jon and I were on the same team last year. What up Jon!
Tri-cicles is good!

ParticipantHere are pics of what the temporary detours look like as of this morning (9/29). There’s also one up the hill that looks even more treacherous. The thick wood chip surface and narrow width should make passing through this area problematic.

ParticipantYesterday morning just after 10:00 there was actually a crew installing what appeared to be new lights under the overpass. And not just new bulbs in the existing housings, from the looks of it they were installing new housings as well. Hopefully it’s bash-proof.

Capital Weather Gang has Richmond for as much as 10 inches of snow! Yikes. Add next weeks rain to the mix (and near 60°F on Wednesday with the rain?) and we should have some good mud for Monster Cross. I’ll need different tires for the Rove.
Good thing forecasts change! Right now they’re calling for sunny skies with highs in the low 50s. Thoughts on tire selection anyone?

You can do navigation with the 500 if you have preloaded a route, it gives you a line to follow which has been fine by me.
This is also true of the 200. Differences are the 500 has a barometric altimeter (hence the more accurate elevation mentioned by Rob), displays temperature, has a speed/cadence sensor, and is compatible with heart rate monitors and power meters.

The east sidewalk of Key Bridge was in good shape this morning — fine on slicks.
Does anyone have surveillance updates on MVT and the WOD? Still an icy/snowy/slushy mess? I was planning to take them this evening, but perhaps I need to find an alternate route.
Thanks!!
Based on what the MVT was like yesterday afternoon and pics I’ve seen today, it’s a no go, especially on slicks. I was on 38c knobbies with studs and turned back yesterday after 100 yards or so. Pretty much fat bikes only for a bit I’m afraid. Here’s a #bafs2015 Instagram where you can see the conditions on the humpback bridge this morning… http://instagram.com/p/zPnlZEnsSn/

Is this still on for this evening? Turns out I’m in town after all.
Yes, I’m planning to be there at 6:00 and I know Nick and Steve O will be there.

I enjoy the car-free roads, especially the one that goes to 17%, I never ‘cut through’ and I’m just ‘visiting’ but I guess we should stop riding there.
Here’s a solution: buy yourself a plot at the top of the road and tell the Rev. you’re just “visiting.” And if anyone on here wants to do the same they can just say “I’m visiting my friend Rod’s plot.” I’m not exactly sure how it works but I don’t think you have to be dead to be a customer.

ParticipantHi everyone, Nick and I talked about a happy hour this week on the VA side and settled on Thursday at 6:00 at Heavy Seas Alehouse in Rosslyn. This should be an easy ride over the Key Bridge for DC folks and those commuting home to VA from DC. Hope to see you there!

ParticipantHi everyone, Chris and I are meeting for a drink at St. Arnold’s on Jefferson around 6:00 if anyone else is able to make it. If not, no worries, we’ll arrange another HH soon.
