ParticipantGoddamnit.. I totally thought it was Friday, and that the 200K I’m planning on Friday IN THE SNOW would count as well.
Well thanks for correcting me. I’d really be annoyed if I showed up at HP alone. I will most likely not be there now. Enjoy!

There are backwards loop segments.
http://www.strava.com/segments/5678131?filter=overallI was down there for a lap on Sunday and saw at least 5 people going the wrong way. I don’t get it. The wind sucked going NW no matter which way you were going around the loop, so why would you go backwards??
I’m hoping to make it down there Friday evening but no guarantees. I have to work Saturday, so have to get up early.

ParticipantOnce – While confirming the terrible condition of the MVT a couple of weeks ago. The jogger rut was iced over near the airport and I did a low speed keel over. Knee was a little sore afterward, but worst part was I somehow ended up back heeling my chainring and got some shallow gashes in my calf area despite wearing 3 layers at the time. I shudder to think what would have happened to my bare leg!
Ice can suck a big fat one.

Yup, this was on my list for 2016. The current club system (using BikeArlington) didn’t really work that well this time around.
There are a number of app improvements I have on the list to make for 2016:
– Stop posting all the porn, so that government systems allow the leaderboard at work.

ParticipantI rode through here yesterday going up the Custis. What is the deal with the big, temporary “Yield to Pedestrians in Crosswalk” sign thing, that blocks the cross-walk signal?! Seriously? How are peds and cyclists supposed to know they’re allowed to cross with that blocked? I should have taken a picture.
I noticed the new no turn on red arrow. Not very distinctive during day time. Maybe in the dark it’s more noticeable?

Arlington cleared the custis and the WOD west of the custis.
Ok, thanks for the info. Does anyone know why the W&OD east of the Custis was ignored? I guess I just wasn’t paying attention when this was discussed.

ParticipantWhich trails exactly is Arlington clearing? I thought they were doing the Custis the W&OD within Arlington. It appears I’ve been giving them way too much credit. The W&OD is terrible/impassible without studs 1/2 mile west of Columbia Pike. This was a disappointing surprise to discover today.
The MVT (I know, not Arlington jurisdiction) was predictably bad too, but actually around the airport it wasn’t as bad as the W&OD.

ParticipantYeah, I was thinking there was something wrong with the data matching up rides with temps. As of yesterday, it still said that my coldest ride was in early January – 12 degrees, measured in King George, VA.
I did an AM sleaze ride last Friday when it was super cold and everyone was in single digits or below zero, and it still lists 12 degrees as my coldest ride.

ParticipantAwesome! Thanks for talking to them! It sounds like potentially all the solution we should need. Time will tell, but hopefully the additions come spring time will end this problem.

Well, if you run your brakes super close, you might want to just open them up a bit? Or change the offset of the pads to give you more clearance on whichever side is rubbing.
Adjusting brakes – that has been my go to so far by fixing the symptom, and not the actual problem unfortunately.
I’ll try swapping the wheel with my other one to see what happens. It’s the exact same wheel as the problem wheel though, so it could be interesting. Heh.
Interesting article! I don’t understand most of it, but parts definitely did make sense. For me, the bottom line I feel is that I’m using a rim/spoke combination that should be ok. I have plenty of spokes on a heavy duty rim, so I just don’t think it should be occurring.
creadinger
ParticipantThe wheel is probably wider than average. It’s wide enough I can put on 35mm tires for touring and stuff. I typically ride on 28s. It’s a beefier rim for greater strength too because I’m a clydesdale+. I have the 32 spoke version.
So last night I pulled on stuff and squeezed spokes and generally tried to make stuff move that shouldn’t. I couldn’t find any movement other than the spokes may be looser than the spokes on my other bike. Hard to tell, bu it’s definitely not out of true at all. It’s supposed to be a good wheel. At least that’s what the guy who built it said. I wonder if I should go back to the shop and insist they investigate the issue?

ParticipantIf the blade touched the ground, I would be impressed. But he’s leaving 1-2″ behind which doesn’t help much. I do like the attention to detail with the TP though.

Turn clockwise 90 degrees and you see a cyclist getting his 15 seconds of fame. Or maybe it’s creadinger trying to wave the Google car away from driving on the trail.
No, that’s not me. I had to do a double take though because that is the exact color of my bike, and I had a rack like that too. I don’t have any guesses as to who it is.

from the Google Street view I can see why it is confusing if it looks like this in real life.
And as Bobco pointed out I think, if you move over and zoom in, you can see the (maybe) 1 sqft sign saying motorized vehicles prohibited. What good is that?!

I ride through this area 2-3 times a week and will watch for evidence of this happening. There must be tire tracks or some evidence of ruts in the grass.
The trail there is about one traffic lane wide, so the drivers I’ve seen pretty easily stay off the grass. The only time someone really leaves the pavement is when they 3-point-turn at Rt. 1 to go back the way they came, or drive over the curb.
