ParticipantWhy not Hindi? There are a lot Indians that live out in the Sterling area. I can only imagine how much of a pain in the ass this guy was in the community meetings he got kicked out of. As if Sterling Blvd wasn’t terrible to cross already!

ParticipantSunday, late morning outside the 7-11 at the intersection of Little River Turnpike and Hummer Rd.
I was applying sunscreen after having just purchased some fluids and food. You pull up on a tricked out touring bike with 5 full looking top of the line Ortlieb panniers and some sort of fancy saddle that rotates down making it easier to mount I guess. Whenever I see cross-country looking touring bikes I always feel like I should say something to start a conversation but I’m also a big time introvert so I usually don’t. In this case I was just left confused.
You pulled up, looked around, had a cigarette and left again. What? Hardly the behavior I would expect from a hard core touring cyclist.

ParticipantI used to commute from Laurel down to Goddard. I would use Soil Conservation Road, a little bit of Powder Mill, and Springfield Rd, and Brock Bridge. It was a while ago, so I don’t remember it all. These roads are probably farther east than you need to go.

ParticipantWow.. I’m baffled that this is a policy that exists today and I can’t believe that executive board or whatever would knowingly allow this to go on. They surely should know the laws regarding disabled access?!

I’m also slightly over 200 pounds so I have some extra mass to pull up the hills.
Yeah, I have more than 50 pounds on you, so I feel your pain. That’s why I like the triple chainring with 32t large cog on my rando/touring bike. And unlike the pros, we both have arms that are thicker than #9 spaghetti.

This was definitely the most sustained climbing that I’ve ever done and although it was difficult, getting to descend for nearly 6 miles at the end made all of the effort worth it.
All those laps at HP didn’t help at all?

ParticipantHave fun y’all!! I have to work this weekend so I won’t be able to make it out there. I still haven’t ridden SLD yet! Humbug. If someone could post some pictures please. I’m curious as to what it will look like with bikes everywhere.
I’m also curious to see any data showing lots more hotel stays, meals eaten, and drinks drunk in the adjacent towns because cyclists took over for a weekend.

ParticipantIt’s been going on for a while….. I think I asked about it at one point too, but I couldn’t find that thread.
Agree that it’s irritating to see.
PS – this post is now like Inception where you can go 3 layers deep into prior threads on the same subject. This will cause you to think you asked about the phenomena years ago, and the subsequent epiphany related to all this will make you want to sell your multi-national, billion dollar company to me for a couple hundred bucks.

My commute is the opposite direction on the CCT, so I end up having to dodge these people as they swerve into my “lane”. Also, it means that when I come up on a jogger or whatever, I end up having to stop and wait to pass because there inevitably is a line of like 15 cyclists all riding 2 abreast coming the other way. Gah, why do you people feel the need to ride your bikes to work?? That’s my thing! Although come summer, the heat will surely take its toll and thin their ranks.
Fortunately I rarely do that CCT route and usually on Fridays which are much less busy. On Tuesday evening I did the rare weekday trip from Del Ray up into DC for the FS Happy Hour and experienced the pretty much non-stop wall of cyclists coming southbound as you described. In 30 minutes of riding I saw more bad passes than I’ve seen in all of 2017. I know it sounds like first-world problems, but it really is a hassle.

ParticipantI’ll second the mirror. Great for lots of circumstances.
Unfortunately on Monday morning I did not have it with me coming down the CCT from the MD line to Georgetown. Somehow I found myself in a steady stream-like pack of 20 Cat-6 commuters all going varying speeds at different times with someone always passing something. Throw a dozen joggers into the mix and it was chaotic. With all the bells dinging and ringing it sounded like a frickin salvation army bucket parade and I couldn’t tell what the hell was going on. I had to check behind me before passing someone else anyway.

ParticipantTo the esteemed data collectors and FS2017 administrators. I need ride data to determine one of my prize winners. What would be the best way to go about that?
Thanks!
