It’s just Jim’s crazy cast of sock puppets, it’s not actually multiple people.

ParticipantConstruction of Amazon’s first 2 dedicated office buildings will result in the construction of protected bike lanes on the west side of Eads from 12th St to 15th St, on 15th Street (both sides) from Elm to Route 1 and will include Virginia’s first full protected intersection. Protection will be either poured curbs or modular curbs; bus islands will be used to eliminate bus/bike conflicts.

Chris, sorry about your wife’s bike being stolen. Here are suggestions for European city bikes with some of the features you want and enclosed chain case:
Dewey, this was fantastically helpful. Thank so much.
The Pashley Princess and Gazelle Tour Populair both look like great potential options. Once I have a better idea of how to move forward with our insurance company, I’ll talk to Bicycle Space and the Daily Rider.

Have you contacted Capital Bikeshare to see if the bike was legally checked out and if they have that person’s info?
Bikeshare has indicated they’re happy to share that information with the police. Still waiting to hear anything from the police since our online theft report.

So as a FFX County resident, I don’t pay too much attention to the goings-on in Arlington, but I just looked through the plans for the Banneker Park redesign. And their long term goal is to move the W&OD traffic outside the park? I mean, the official W&OD already technically goes down that hill on 19th/Tuckahoe to enter the park by the playground, but NO ONE actually goes that way. Does anyone know HOW they plan to shift W&OD through-traffic outside the park long-term? or is that just something they’re saying for the NIMBYs?
Big expensive bridge, that’s why it’s a long-term plan.

I would much preferred they use that developer funding to widen and put a barrier on the bridge just west of these buildings where you are directly exposed to Glebe Rd traffic. That is by far the least safe place on this part of 4MR, and actually not hard to fix since the right lane is 14ft+ wide there.
This isn’t funding, it’s the developer actually doing it as part of the building construction contract.
Getting off-site transpo improvements from development is a bigger lift (especially on an affordable housing project) but I’m getting better at it.

ParticipantI’m unfortunately going to be out of town the weekend of the Fun Ride for a family wedding. If somebody else wants the bike-mount bubble machine for the Fun Ride, I’m happy to hook you up.

I took photos of the “raised” crosswalk and it’s basically not raised at all.
E-mail today from the Project Manager:
Later this week, weather permitting, the contractor will begin corrective construction work associated with the S. Walter Reed Drive Improvement Project. This will include addressing the raised crosswalk at the slip lane on S. Arlington Mill Drive and replacing portions of curb and gutter on the north bound side of S. Walter Reed Drive, among other items.

I checked in with the Project Manager about the raised crosswalk:
“Construction looks finished, but it isn’t. There is more work and several corrections to come. The raised crosswalk is one of them. There was a grading error.”
Stay tuned.
