Six or seven years ago, we (me and a NPS engineer) moved hotspot 6 away from the split and closer to the river. In addition to choking that ramp to one lane, it allowed motorists to focus on the split and then pay attention to the crosswalk. That seemed to work, likely more a result of the road diet.
I only use that crosswalk occasionally but think that crosswalk gives me a fighting chance.
Agreed, #6 is SO much better since the move and lane reduction.

Slightly off-topic, and I’m sure this has been thoroughly hashed over elsewhere in the forum, but I don’t think the NPS’s preferred plan (“Alternative C”) is going to improve things all that much.
It’s a terrible plan that will burn up tons of resources at a cash-strapped agency for minimal gain because the bureaucrats think a traffic light will mar the historic viewshed.

I was not involved as I have never lived in Arlington, but my impression was that there was significant pushback from the politically influential country club, and getting the connector (tied in with emergency vehicle access) was considered a big win by everyone in the bike community.
The membership of the club hated it so much they sued their own governing board for agreeing to the easement.

I think we should remember where we are in the process: we are defining goals for the Vision Zero program to start to develop an action plan. This isn’t the action plan. “Strive to” makes sense for goals, particularly when we’re talking about things like “ensuring safety for all users”.
Gotta disagree here. Goals should be concrete and we should strive to meet them.

Do you also have pics of the “Spring 2011” signs for the Washington Blvd Trail? I lost mine.
I got your back.

And let me get this straight, Metro hired *two* utterly incompetent contractors?
Typically US governments are required by law to hire the lowest bid contractor. This helps avoid corruption, but also often forces them to hire a company they are pretty confident is going to screw it up, cut corners, or go out of business mid-project. We need a better system.

However, I wonder how much traffic cameras and bike lanes overlap in the area.
Arlington has quite a few, but they have an annoying habit of panning them around at inopportune times.

ParticipantQ: What about my dog?
A: No for #kidical. Yes for #withkid but only if the dog is riding their own bike (see http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showth…487#post183487 for that ruling). This Q&A embodies everything that I love about Freezing Saddles, but the link is broken – correct URL is here.

I’d like to commission a pool noodle with custom Freezing Saddles artwork (black sharpie on foam should work) by LeprosyStudyGroup.
This would really increase participation in the Freezing Saddles Jousting side bet.

ParticipantNo photos because it was very dark, but Arlington has done some spot improvements where the Arlington Blvd Trail pops out by the Days Inn / Pershing and they’re very nice. The curb cut into the access road from the trail is now full trail width and the little trail that connects to the Pershing intersection is wide, smooth and unobstructed by bushes. It appears to be the improvement that were outlined here except no plastic bollards yet.

If any developer wants to buy that parcel and get rid of the drive through, I volunteer to go to the Council and testify on behalf of any zoning variance to redevelop.
One of the most enlightening moments I’ve ever had on Transportation Commission was when the transportation impact analysis came in for the 12-story office building that will eventually replace the old Wendy’s in Courthouse. Trips per day went DOWN. Like..way down. Fast food drive-throughs are extremely traffic-intensive.
