Thanks Kathy, Chris, and Pete for joining BA All Stars!

The contest doesn’t start for real until May, but it’s not too early to sign up now.Now if I can just remember to log them rides! and to stop logging after I de-wheel.

I guess I got poached by Crystal City after being on the BA B team last year. I’m not sure how they knew to invite me, but I kind of like the idea of riding for a team that is identified for the city where I live, over [LargerRegion Letter]. That was before I knew the whole 10 member team size thing was done though. I thought 10 member teams worked really well last year. Oh well. I’m sure the BA All Stars will win this region, but hopefully CC will make you work for it.
I’m not a fan of traitors… crucify him? Oh, right. that went out of style a while ago. What do we do now? Out ride ’em! Put ’em to shame!

Capital Bikeshare uses an XML feed to publish data station data. The feed is located at http://www.capitalbikeshare.com/data/stations/bikeStations.xml
That’s great. I’m surprised it shows the Nannie Helen Burroughs & Minnesota Ave NE station. It’s not yet installed, but set to public. That explains the one white bubble on the map (which I’d been finding odd, as it’s not referenced in the key). It also identified one station as temporary.

Thanks to Congress, I will have a little time on my hands this spring and summer – Every Friday. but life gives you lemons, right?
Announcing my sweet new Sequestration Gig – I am now a licensed pedicab driver. I will be taking fares around the tidal basin and the mall. I’ll be easy to spot: I’ll be the one in the Bike Arlington scarf. I think I’ll offer a $5 discount on any ride to forum members. Romantic ride to see the cherry blossoms anyone? I’ll probably be the only Pedicab making pointless loops around Hains Point.
From out of many
Rose the one rider
To ride all by pedicab
Friday it’ll be, he says. And the pedals revolve
As the government slows
The brake pads wear thin
Dust has covered themDusting himself off
Rose the one rider
To ride all by pedicab
Friday it is, he says.Be there.
Don’t scare.
Ride easy.
Ride hard.Sit back and relax
As there’s risen a driver
To ride all by pedicab
Friday it is, they say. After looping Haines Point
And back again to the city
Rally the cycles
And again we road on.cephas

If this is true, can we talk to “them” about keeping the path open during rush hours? It doesn’t seem like there’s any reason the path needs to be closed when they’re not working… Does anyone know how to contact “them”?
I usually yoodle and ring my bell three times. They always respond, but sometimes you have to listen really carefully to hear them.

ParticipantHmmm, seems like none of these scientists are local. 50% humidity average in the summer????? Have they heard of Northern Virginia humidity?? I should think it legendary, but alas, it shows how far off the beaten (scientific) path we are! I’d guess we average 78.3% humidity. during a good summer. Also, vasoconstriction is only a factor while warming up. Once warm, it shouldn’t factor any longer.

Um, no way. Me too.
I’m usually found commuting at least a couple days a week from West Falls Church to DC and back. Anywhere from very early in the morning to average. on a black ’86 Trek 400 Elance of the coveted 531. (love the way she handles). usually with the generic yellow jacket, and a yellow Ortlieb on the rear rack. and if you’re ever out to Manassas, you may catch the beginning or end miles of my commute or, as part of the bonus round, on a late ’90’s orange Novara with the kiddie trailer attached on the weekend.
Mad props to the first person to snap a picture and post it here.

That’s the cross county trail.
That’s it?! I’ve heard about it, and I have wondered what the cross county trail was, but I always figured it would trace the county parkway more. Ah well. Knowledge is power. and with great knowledge comes great disappointment. as someone once may have said.

Key Bridge
Whitehurst expressway. I know this seems crazy, but I think it’s actually safer than M St. No intersections, good sightlines for the cars, downhill start to get speed, traffic often stopped anyway towards the end–so it’s not like they are zooming by.Then straight and UNDER Washington Circle.
I second the idea. not for the faint of heart, but not bad. I generally prefer M St, unless I’m feeling brave. and/or running late.

ParticipantIf the distance matters to you at all, I wonder if you might be interested in a shorter, more direct route to the W&OD: through Lake Accotink Park and up through Vienna. I have limited personal experience on this route, except on Nutley St, (which I don’t advise if you want to avoid traffic), but I imagine something like this: http://goo.gl/maps/GgWO6

ParticipantYou don’t have to restrict yourself to the minimum – but it does give you a new freedom: You can make your bike commute as short or long as you please! and discover all sorts of rides in the area. You can ride an out and back, or a loop to get to your office. or not, and take the direct route.
