ParticipantThere’s a garage on the west side of 6th, just south of H with plenty of bike parking. It’s closer to 7th than to 5th, but, hey, it’s a garage.

It might be. Have you taken it for a test drive?? Maybe there is only one speed left on the thing
Point taken. Ouch. Do stop with the sharp objects. I used to have a mountain bike like that. It had about 1/4 of the speeds as it should have.

The important papers have arrived…

So, Mikey, about that jersey…

That’s what I thought initially, because I was near our loading dock at the time, but then I looked outside and it was most definitely thunder.
Weather.com tells me 23 mph winds from ENE!! That should push me right over to HH!! Oh, yeah, it also says “heavy” t-storms… I wonder what that means…

ParticipantHow about Custis, Calvert, Lee H, Highland? Disrecommended?

Strangest morning commute ever.
As I was riding up the pedestrian ramp onto the 14th St. Bridge (heading north) I saw a man jump off the bridge and into the Potomac. I rode up to the jump location and saw his backpack and wallet (sitting outside the backpack). A nice fellow bike commuter pulled over and called 911. The man surfaced and seemed to be OK. He floated on his back for a bit, then slowly swam to the edge and got out of the water (this all took ~7 minutes). Authorities did eventually arrive, but (from my listening to my fellow bike commuter’s responses to the 911 operator’s questions) it seemed that they were not overly concerned about a person jumping into the water and leaving their belongings on the bridge.
What I’m sitting here wondering is: should we have NOT called 911? I tend to err on the side of caution…. so, I think if I ever see anyone jump off a bridge again (which I hope I never do) I will again call 911.
What time-ish was that? I also passed over 14th St bridge, but saw no such excitement. I’ve taken to riding W&OD all the way down to Mt V Tr instead of taking Custis. I miss the mall, but not much else.

ParticipantI probably should have asked earlier if I wanted it to really help my morning commute at all. I am happy to report that the flooded valley at mm 3.29-ish or so on the Custis from the last heavy rain has not reappeared.

So… what’s YOUR favorite weather app?
Sometimes I check weather.com and they’re right. I’m on the wtop.com breaking news list and emergency alerts from Fairfax county, which give me severe weather forecasts. But the one service that has not failed is the sensation of touch. It doesn’t predict the future, but when used outside under the right conditions it has never failed to accurately tell me about the current weather conditions where I am.

Good to hear. Makes me wish I could follow the guy! Of course, I was just trying to keep up. really.
@Rod Smith 56388 wrote:Haha. Looks like he pushed you to some new PRs! I’m sure he made better time with you than he would have alone and not just for the navigation which had to be a big help.
It was a big motivation to keep up. As to the end result? If I’d checked, the flight I was heading to meet was supposed to take off at about exactly the same time I left my desk. (Another motivational push- was just going to make it to the airport on time) but, as I realized only on getting back to my car, it got pushed back another hour and a half, and I got to enjoy dinner and a beer.
