Sounds positively misogynist. or just a little masochistic.

Mystery solved re the possible school in Potomac Yard. I wrote to ARLnow about it and they did some digging.
InfiLaw System, a Florida-based consortium of independent law schools, was planning to open a new law school at National Gateway. Though the site plan amendment was approved to allow for educational use, InfiLaw System has decided not to follow through on their plans for the school. It’s kind of odd. The amendment was approved this spring and then the consortium almost immediately changed their minds about the project. It’s not as though the economy or the legal market changed that suddenly in a matter of weeks.
http://www.arlnow.com/2013/06/14/plans-for-arlington-law-school-fall-through/Actually, it was right about that time that there was (continual) uproar about law school’s being a waste of money, with finger pointing at law school admins as a get rich quick scheme, and as exhibit A the tons of under- and unemployed law grads. Don’t ask how I know, but as an underemployed lawyer, I may have time to read too much…

There will also be a new bike/ped path from Potomac Ave. to Braddock Road. It will connect the southern end of the upcoming Potomac Yard Park with Braddock Rd., along the railroad tracks. Part of it is already paved. (Don’t ask me how I know this…)
I’m sure you saw it from the VRE train, just like I did.

To use the ramp, you will need to slightly tilt your bike to clear the metal
handrail. We need a prize for the first person to ride down the railing unbloodied.

ParticipantI use a Serfas Rx that I love. It’s held up extremely well, except for the tear I put on when I dropped it against a brick building. It’s still a very respectful, loving, and good looking saddle, but will need to be replace in the next few years. I’ve had it 2 or 3 years already, and it replaced another of the same, such was my love for them. I can’t say enough good thigs about it. The ergonomics were a huge plus, it’s well ventilated, and just enough cushion without being too much.

What the Code says is:
The “walk” signal is generally the happy white walking stick figure, and the “don’t walk” is the menacing red hand. There’s nothing in the Code about walking while the don’t walk stick figure is blinking. The instruction manual attached to the sign post typically says something like “do not enter crosswalk, complete crossing if already in the crosswalk” next to the picture of the red hand with the numbers. Yes, common sense says that if you can make it across during the countdown there’s no reason not to do so, but that’s not what the Code says.
Edit to add: note the Code says that pedestrians shall be given the right of way, so if the drivers can scofflaw, so can I!
Since the code clearly refers to pedestrians, I’ll continue to follow the vehicular signal while on a bicycle.

ParticipantNo prizes for the DMV area for August, as we prepare for the big ones in another month??
Sadly, I’ll be coasting into diamond (early work paying off!), as we welcomed a new addition to the family last week. A ride a day (sleaze ride, shmeeze ride) M-F puts me in! Keep on pedaling!

Meh. It doesn’t include the coffee cup holder. Worthless.

Took the long way in this morning and was rewarded with a few sightings and latching on to some fast, but scary riders. These two guys were hauling and sticking real close together, but there was tons of wheel overlap and one sat in the middle of the trail most of the time. Definitely some dicey passes, but a good pace.
Also got to see the pfar on MVT!
I wonder if those were the same two guys I latched onto the wheel of last week. From the end of FMR to Shirlington, they carried me. I felt bad I couldn’t pull, but I did all I could just to keep up.

Sorry to screw with your stats Dana but I never differentiate my ride types…. I list all of them as “Sport” for simplicity even though the majority of them are commuting…. sorry!
Oops. Me too. I do the opposite. and the opposite of that- I always leave it on cycling transportation. But then sometimes I get out my CAT6 license mid-ride, and get sporty. It’s such a pain to switch on endo mid-ride though.

I took a closer look this morning and note that the painted lane markers are continuous on the MVT and are not on 4MR, so I guess that provides a clearer indication of who has the right of way. I agree that moving the sign to the airport side of 4MR would make it even more clear.
I also took a closer look this morning. The sign is about 6 inches from 4MRT, and 2.5 – 3 feet from MVT. There’s also foliage on the outside side of 4MRT that could at times obscure the yield sign. It’s definitely not ideal, but does not appear overly confusing.

What time did this happen? I passed through there heading west around 8:45 and didn’t see anything. Hope he is OK!
I passed by around 7:07, also eastbound. There were 3 police cars blocking Traffic on Great Falls from the right, and one from the left back at the light. The driver had pulled off the road left of the trail, and left of where the cyclist was sitting on the grass, just left of the trail. The cyclist appeared to be filling put an accident report or something, from which I figured he was in decent condition. A fire truck or something similar pulled away as I was approaching.

ParticipantMe: cyclist with highly visible fluorescent yellow vest moving quickly down L St cycle track towards my office this morning around 8 am.
You: oversized SUV with directional challenges, making left hand turn onto Connecticut from L with spontaneity.
Fortunately my brakes were just strong enough to avoid your offer to help rearrange the rear left side of your vehicle, so I must decline said invitation. Unfortunately, in my haste, certain choice words escaped me. I apologize that they were neither strong enough to the occasion, nor reached your ears. Next time I will try harder to rise to the occasion.

ParticipantI’ve got a 1987 Novara Strada that I may be willing to part with if you’re still looking. It’s a beauty, complete with Shimano 105 set. It’s a little big in the torso on me, and I’m 6’2″, but all legs, so I guess it depends a little on how he’s built if it will fit.
