OK, I just saw the picture posted in the W&OD thread today, and it was a lot like that. So if, like in that thread, you think it’s ridable, maybe you’re set. LOL But the road bike guys thought it was a no-go. Why the heck did I post again? :)

Rode it tonight based on Dirt’s recommendation. Remind me never to listen to him again :)

It’s rideable with a MTB and studs. It kicked my butt without the studs, and when the front goes out from under you it goes out FAST. Nothing bruised but my pride. I made it but I bailed to the streets as much as possible.

As per plowing the W&O: Could WABA help us out in this regard? I will contact my Board Supervisor and advocate for plowing the W&O but a large organization has a larger profile and would have more clout..

Historically the answer has always been:
    1: No Funding
2: Not plowing as that gives the cross-country skiiers, snowshoers, etc a chance to use it.

Interesting to see if that’s changed. Not like it’s not a major commuting corridor

Here’s the W&OD Looking west towards the Route 28 Bridge (Loudoun Co).

    Oh, I’d ride that!

After 6 beers and a double dog dare maybe, and I don’t even drink!

Wonder if I bought a plow for my Jeep if they’d have a fit if I plowed the trail?

I’ve dealt with this in both our leased office in Arlington (Lincoln Properties owned) and our owned building in NW.. that has a totally anal facilities manager.

In both cases was allowed to use the freight elevator.

I just saw a small plow on the W&OD at Ohio St in Arlington (about mile 4.25). I’m going to get the icebike out after lunch and see how much was plowed. This area has seen some plowing both this winter and in previous winters (like from Bon Air to Banneker Parks).

I don’t think that that’s NVRPA that maintains that part, I’m seriously wondering if it’s someone else. That stretch is always in too good a shape – I’ve even seen salt down on it unless it’s getting flung over the wall from 66.

We got nearly a foot out here,I did the telecommute thing – good decision since I’ve been getting calls since 2am or so.

I need to scan it.. My son has the ticket he got here in Winchester – 36 in a 25. Paced by the cop and pulled over with lights and siren.

I went with him to court, because I didn’t want to see him get points on his drivers license. Judge asked me what I thought. I told him that considering he wasn’t in front of a TV playing video games i was actually impressed with the feat – I knew I couldn’t do it where he had. And that it sounded that it was certainly not done in an unsafe manner.

Judge agreed, and dismissed it but the best part was that he railed the cop up one side and down the other for even writing the ticket.

Actually to take that one better, at first set them up in a doorway.

As to the clipping in and out thing, I’ve found it’s much easier when you’re on your back with the bike on top of you :)

(edit: oh, that just sounds wrong)

Am in the process of looking at used bikes to purchase, and have mixed feelings about going with a triple (increased complexity that may require more frequent adjustments, etc.). Have a triple on my urban assault bike and love it in that context. Just not sure if my eventual road runner will need that gearing flexibility as well….

Not really more complex, if the high/low limits are set right and it indexes correctly then a double and a triple will pretty much shift the same. The mechanics behind each are identical, it’s just that the triple has an in-between index point.

So much so that the 5600 series flavor of 105 road shifters the left shifter (front derailleur) is the same and just adjusted differently between double and triple.

What you can’t do in the front is freely mix road and mountain parts to the level you can on the rear but even then you can get away with some. I certainly wouldn’t rule out a nice bike that fits well because it had a triple. All of my wife’s bikes are triples and they’re no more maintenance than any of mine.. and they have a picky owner, trust me!

BTW: Are the rumors true of another deer culling this week? I haven’t seen any signs, because it’s pitch black when I’m out there. :P

Another? Like it looks like they actually got any the first time? LOL. Haven’t seen any signs.. I’ll look.

Had to laugh the last time. Was on the trail the next day and about broadsided a 8 point buck and 5 does. They might have been shooting at them, wonder if they actually hit any? :P

Depends on the shifters really. Some can be either, some mean you replace the shifter and front derailleur in addition to the crank. You may want to list out what you have for components so others can look and comment.

Have to ask though, what are you trying to accomplish? Sometimes a granny small ring is nice to have.
