I’m not getting the black fence. West side was barrels and orange fence and the east side was 6 tall’ portable silver anchor fence sections when I came through @3am this morning. I’ll grant however that I didn’t look yesterday, so it’s entirely possible it’s in a state of flux.

Looks like a drunk painted the yellow center line though :-)

I’m fortunate to have two local shops that stock most of what I’d like. They also have PERFECT customer service.

Love to know who they are.

I have three local to home. One charges sometimes double list price for small items. Other (my favorite) stocks little for current bikes, but need that small off the wall part and they’ll dig it out of a parts bin. Third is great, they do killer fittings, but they’re fairly high end, Pinarello, Parlee, Moots, etc and a bit rich for my blood. Bit rich for the area these days too, look to be struggling but may just be perception. Unfortunately as a result I buy a lot off the internet.

Didn’t CCrew just have a mountain bike for sale?

I did, and actually still do, but unless Ann’s higher altitude of about 5’8″ it’ll probably be too big. Besides, I understand the appeal to a particular bike.

My wife will ride with her though, she actually likes going out in the mud on a MTB and coming back looking like a day at the mud spa. I understand the attraction….

And btw, I’m well north of 40… the wife not so much :)

Yeah, there are little holes in the front and back that look like they might be for fenders. You’re right, unlikely that Giant would sell fenders for a bike that don’t fit on it.

I live in Columbia Heights and work at L’Enfant Plaza. I’m mobile, though, especially when people are doing me a favor.

I’m right off the Orange line at Mcpherson Sq, no reason we can’t meet up. I usually get out earlier in the afternoon anyway. I’ll grab them from the garage and bring them to work and I’ll pm you and we can arrange a meet. Already in work today though..

I say it’s a Nike moment.. “Just do it!” :)

Be careful of Spartacus’s feelings. He might fray a cable and stick you right in the finger (that hurts!)!

How do I check if it’s set up for fender stays?

Should have an unused screw hole near the wheel skewers on the front and back. Honestly, based on the fact that Gian’t’s selling fenders for that bike I’d be surprised if it *didn’t* have them.

What part of town are you in? I come in from the west and go downtown (NW) I’d happily meet up somewhere. I picked these up because my LBS had them on a clearance rack for $3, and knew someone would need them someday. Too good a price to let go.

You’re asking people on a bike board to talk you out of a bike… Silly rabbit! Nice bike. Bit overkill for the C&O I’d think, but we know you’re going to be hucking those big jumps :)

    Hi CCrew,

Thank you for the information, what I am wondering about is that, isn’t that the job of a police to write a report with the facts and if either party want to settle it in a court, they can have some facts base on the police report.

Another one is I really like to know if there is such a law, rule or regulations that when you are riding on a sidewalk which is legal by Montgomery county code sec. 31-5, do I have to follow the flow of traffic on the right side of the sidewalk?

Of course I can move on and I will move on, but as a father, I should do all I can to help, what if my kid is the next one facing this situation?

I don’t know what the current stare of police reports are in MontCo, but I know where I am they won;’t write one for less than $2k in property damage or unless there’s personal injury involved. You signed off on an injury, thereby absolving the PI portion of it. I can say had you not done that there was almost sure to be a report.

As far as the kids, I have three. They’ve all been raised to know that they have the same rights as a car on roads. Keep in mind what may be legal (ie: riding on a sidewalk) isn’t always the smartest thing to do.

I’m not trying to come across harsh here, so please don’t take it as such.

MD, and VA have a clause known as “contributory negligence”. It basically means that both parties have fault in the accident, and in the case of insurance it means that both parties are left to repair their own damages. I suspect that that’s in place here which is why both parties escaped without a ticket. I seriously doubt that the cops are friends with the driver, or that any discrimination is occurring, or anything else is at play other than somehow, some way both parties were deemed at fault or possibly even you were deemed at fault and the cops chose not to write a ticket.

Sidewalks, crosswalks and the like are a BAD place to ride. You had every legal right to ride in the street. The fact that you chose not to could *potentially* be argued as negligence on your part.

Personally I’d lick my wounds, fix the bike and move on.

If your tires are 28mm or smaller and your bike is set up for fender stays I have a full set of SKS’s I haven’t been able to give away. Look just like the ones you linked. Yours if you want them – just buy me a Coke :p

    I don’t do fenders… they slow me down :).

How much slack should there be between the cleat and pedal? When I do a twist, I feel some wobble sometimes before it snaps out.

The standard is 6 degrees of float. Some pedals run more few run less. There needs to be a certain amount of slack in the pedal/cleat interface or there’s no give for your knees.

If we’re talking Shimano SPD cleats here there are also several versions There’s the SH-51 and the SH-56. The SH-51 is black and is a single release cleat. The SH-56 is gold and is a multi-release. the 56’s release in multiple directions and are a bit easier to get to release. The 51’s are twist heel out only and can take some getting used to for a person unfamiliar with them.

I rarely unclip my left foot. I pretty much always use my right, and have found that the easiest release comes with the crank arm in the 6’oclock or 9’oclock position, it’s where your heel has the most leverage and the crank arm is least likely to spin. Your (and others) experience may vary, but it works for me.. I’ve been doing it so long I’d honestly have to go look any more to see what it is I still do most frequently since it’s become such second nature.

I also do not wait until full stop to unclip.

I just do a quick snap outward of the heel. I know it feels odd at first, but it does become second nature.
