Couple of cute shots from the ride yesterday. The horse is actually made from scrap bicycles.

WMRT Trail, 23 miles of pavement, can be run as a loop with the C&O so it’s not just an out and back. Crossovers at various points so you can trim your ride distance to suit. Very quiet and mostly tree covered. High point is Hancock which is right in the middle of the trail. ( http://www.railstotrails.org/news/recurringfeatures/trailmonth/archives/0209.html )

GAP trail, starts in Cumberland and runs to Pittsburgh. 22 mile uphill out of Cumberland, which can be mitigated by picking it up in Frostburg or taking the steam train on weekends (they have rail cars for bikes). Highlight on the south end is the Big Savage Tunnel (mile long) and the Eastern Continental Divide. ( http://www.atatrail.org/ ). Very good, well groomed crushed limestone for most of the trail. We prefer the Confluence/Ohiopyle area for it’s scenery. It ties to the C&O in Cumberland so you can actually ride from just south of Pittsburgh all the way to Georgetown and never touch a street.

Greenbrier River Trail ( http://wordpress.greenbrierrivertrail.com/ ) Actually more scenic than even the nicer portions of the GAP, but the nicest parts of it are only the 35 miles out of Cass. After that it gets a little into the dogpatch areas of WV, and some of the south end is heavily chewed up by horses. Nice scenic railroad out of Cass.

This one’s next on my “bucket list” give me two weeks, shooting for this one next. http://www.visittiogapa.com/railtrail.html

If you want more info on any of them (and more) feel free to ask. It’s the type of cycling we do most as far as recreational and have done most in the area multiple times.

I confess and repent. I turned to the Dark Side. Today I broke every rule, every courtesy, and rode like a jerk. All I can say is I was in a group, fighting to hold my position and rode within my abilities. When I became too tired I dropped back to make sure I wasn’t putting anyone at risk. Probably won’t do that again but now I understand the thinking, it is a bit primal.

Oh, inquiring minds want to know…. LOL

Torrey Brown Trail/Heritage trail was wonderful. One of the nicer runs we’ve done. They aptly carry two separate names, and they’re certainly two seemingly different trails albeit one contiguous route. We rode from Hunt Valley to York PA, out and back was 82 miles.

Torrey Brown was a bit more scenic, but lacking in the quality and consistency of the trail surface. Good, albeit not wonderful. The Heritage Trail in PA had a great surface, if you’ve ridden the GAP trail very similar. What was nice is that the PA trail passes through a lot of small PA towns, and there were many businesses catering to the trail traffic. Had a nice lunch on the trail, a great ice cream stop, facilities were well spaced, all in all a great ride. Hit hunt Valley Town center after the ride for a great meal. Felt a little iffy in lycra for dinner but the restaurant didn’t seem to mind.

I’d put it high on my recommend list for a good full day outing.

No, I simply have no use for you and as a result will not expend the effort necessary to appease your request. Have a nice day.

CCrew, am I mistaken or did I detect fear of the route preventing you from signing up? Fear, there is no fear in cycling. :-)

Naa, no fear for me. My riding partner for this one however? Definitely Supposedly the 25 and 35 are easy romps. the 65 and 100 not so much

fun tomorrow, I believe I saw a slate of five “victims,” I meant to say ride buddies, for tomorrow’s romp in the woods. Should be a fun alternative to Thursday night Chariot Races @ Wakefield.

You too! Have a great ride!! Look forward to the report. Enjoy Carolina Brothers! :)

Performance Bike seems to turn over a lot of help, dunno if there’s one convenient for you.

Don’t know that I’d tell a prospective employer that you’re only doing it until you move though. As a hiring manager I’d pass on that basis. Just saying.

I think anytime you get into a philosophical discussion such as correct etiquette there’s going to be opinions one way or the other. It’s such an impersonal medium also, you never really know how it’s truly meant and as a result it can be easy to misconstrue.

    Group hug? :)

In a hazy moment I signed up for the 100 on the Back Roads Century Ride, Sept 18th

I’d like to start around 8:00 and get out there pretty quick with the idea of taking my time coming back after I eat half a hog. :-D

I’ll do the Purcellville run again within a month. I like the ride, it’s fun, no stress.

Congrats on the 100. Been waiting to see the course for this year, supposedly the 65 and 100 last year they threw a lot of those infamous “rolling hills” in. Course will decide which we’ll go for. I’m only 8 miles from Berryville – I know those rollers all too well.

Most likely won’t make tomorrow, we’re pretty set on the trip north. Doing this:
    http://www.traillink.com/trail/torrey-c-brown-rail-trail-(formerly-north-central-or-northern-central).aspx

    Which then ties to this:
    http://www.traillink.com/trail/heritage-rail-trail-county-park.aspx

Should give us 80+ for the day.

No, that’s my short and sweet response for an asshole that clearly has no humor gene. We’ve played this game before haven’t we? Wife give you your ‘nads back? Have a great weekend.
