Probably more likely to assume that they went on at a station where the attendant was occupied doing something else. I’ve not checked the clock and gotten on in off hours, but it was simply apathetic attendants.

I’m curious as to why people are up in arms claiming that bike’s stolen. While it’s obviously not “antique” as advertised, it’s only a $1k frameset from Rivendell, and they’re asking $2k for it. Doesn’t set off flags for me.

That’s easily a bike someone could have put out at a yard sale thinking it was just an old bike and some flipper got it that knew what it was worth.

It’s not “bad” as much as it is inefficient. And many of the folks here have been riding long enough to know that the people that buy hybrid bikes tend to run in two classes. First are the ones that buy it and find the inefficiency to be unbearable and give it up, and second are the ones that realize the inefficiency and move on to something more efficient. Hybrid’s do tend to be a “gateway drug” to cycling. You love it and go on to something harder or you realize it’s not for you. DismalScientist’s comment I’m sure reflects that experience and really isn’t off base.

Nice starter road bike that might fit. I’d offer $550-600 for it were I trying to buy it but it will last for a while…

Yes, very hot but workable riding in the shade

Inquiring minds want to know how ya make the ride all in the shade…Is it ride circles under a tree, or the wealthier “Jeeves, hold this umbrella while I ride” thing? :) :) :p

I am a novice female cyclist looking for my first hybrid bike for commuting (appx. 12 miles each way). I am 5’4″ and prefer a WSD. I am looking at a new Trek 7.2, 15″ frame, which would cost $550, or a used Marin – don’t know the model number but its 17″, aluminum, and being offered for $400. Any opinions, and are these generally good prices or should I keep shopping around? TIA!

At 5’4″ I think the Marin is going to be too big. I’m a 5’9″ male and can ride a 17> (touch on the small side, but only a touch) Are we talking new or used on the Trek? New that price isn’t too far out of line but that’s high for used. WSD bikes are hard to pick up on the used market though.

Would be great for people starting to ride again, but not strong enough yet for hills.

Pick one up? They average about 50-75lbs.

The governors are pretty easy to bypass based on the DIY sites. There’s starting to become a bit of a modding subculture similar to the candlepower boards.

May I ask, what intersection? At the intersection of Shreve Road

    BINGO!

But it was at about 11:00am. Traffic was pretty sparse. Lots of opportunities to cross.

Yes. Why not? Too much opposing traffic in the opposite lane? As long as everyone is given adequate room, there is no reason the person in front should be the first to pull out.

Traffic oncoming actually, but I’ve found it rude when stopping at a stop only to have someone come up alongside and cut you off, only so that you have to drop them in 50 more feet. That’s annoying too.

+1. Obviously I’d like to see one but that sounds like a winner.

Weird. I’ve been riding for almost 40 years and I’ve never broken a cable. Chains? YUP! Cables? never.

I’ve seen it on some 105 shifters. It was a problem for a while. I’m with you though, never even pulled one that was frayed.

Breaking chains hurts. That’s from experience.

Metro allows folding bikes though, so that’s a potential option.

If you change http://bikearlingtonforum.com/images/icons/icon1.png to a 1 pixel transparent image you’ll lose that icon

Thanks CCrew — that makes sense. There’s a placeholder icon whether there’s a title or not. I’ve noticed that the title field is hardly ever used for posts; only for new threads.

Just changed it to “none” to see if it’s a display bug. If it has one when I click submit it’s not honoring the “None” choice. Then it’s a bug :)

Edit: Yup. It’s a bug. I have “No Icon” explicitly selected
