Modern dual-pivot road brakes and disc brakes give more power than cantis.
Dunno Dirt. The Avid Shorty Ultimates I just bought just flat rock. Totally impressive for canti’s

I bought a 2011 Cannondale CAADX 105 (http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/road/cyclocross/2011-cyclocross-caadx/2011-caadx-105 )
i’m not even sure what ##/## i have and what it’s limitations are, i’d love to know more about what i have (hopefully the answer is, its sucks). I bought it cause it was the only Cyclo i could find in the area in stock and my size. That’s pretty much a pure play cyclocross bike. While I didn’t see it listed in the spec I’d pretty much expect it to be a 46/36 cross crank. Optimal for cyclocross, and actually not bad for day to day use, especially if you’re subject to a lot of hills. Nice bike with a good component spec. Hard to go wrong with a Cannondale, and if you’re looking at it as a commuter it’s also a good choice.
If you’re new at this (and welcome to the forum!) don’t overthink all the specs and ratios. You’ll get lost in numbers and opinions and at the end of the day it’s all about enjoying the ride anyway.

ParticipantWho actually handles Bon Air park? Just wondering, because almost all the lights are out as you turn off the W&OD, and dunno if you’re aware but that area sees a lot of homeless folks in the 3-4 am timeframe so comes across a bit sketchy in the wee hours.

Gonna take more than paint to fix that bit of trail love.
Yeah, but thats Arlington work not VDOT, so it doesn’t count

ParticipantWonder if they’ll succeed in making the lines slipperier than they already are. Round that turn downhill in the rain and hit a line and you might as well be on ice.

the workers who were painting it on tuesday told us the paint cost $100 per gallon.

That’s the govt cost. That means $3 a gallon for you and me

ParticipantI dunno about that. I came through this am and it definitely appeared to be a low bidder job.

ParticipantOk… Here it is……Son already tried to steal it

ParticipantDelivered the daughter to UVA on Saturday. Quake epicenter was 8 miles from her. Needless to say she’s a happy camper

Cross season is upon us too.
My cross bike is on hold for a while awaiting new cranks. I had regular cranks with BB30 adapters and they just were too much bother. They made all kinds of noise. I’ll get some BB30 cranks in the next month and be back on it.
Look forward to seeing the whole bike. Cool photo!
That’s what mine’s holding for as we speak. I had the BB30 to Hollowtech adapters, couldn’t make myself use them. New Force crank in “out for delivery” with big brown now. Bike should be complete today..

now I have a physical reminder that every time I look down I love cycling and welcome the joy as well as the pain it sometimes brings.
You could always do what my son did… Laid the inside of his right calf against a greasy crank until he got the mark he wanted then went to a tattoo shop and said “I want this”. They did a decent job of it too.
