Package retrieved…alert to those leaving DC…the calvinball is just on the border under the 14th street bridge. Coming from DC do not cross the bridge go down 2 or 3 stairs and look to the left there you will find your prize! 247b89d98a4171eb1b3efcec1de0c039.jpg164454b48cfaadc16dd96878027bb5a8.jpg

Now that my brain is less frozen than when I posted earlier…the Calvinball “ball” has been replaced with a bucket of sweets…and my addition to the rules is that the next Calvinball be replaced with something savory…

No no. You are right. The Calvinball can be replaced. This type of fantastic creativity was desired. ELITE even!

So I think that means the Calvinball is still in Barcroft on 4MR????

Yes unless I get off early and retrieve it! Damn the rules :)

If you are NOT showing on the leaderboard but ARE in the BAFS2018 Strava group, go reauthorize at Freezing Saddles – https://freezingsaddles.com/authorize.

Does it take a while for the re-authorization to go? I am on the strava group leaderboard but I’m not showing up on the website…and I was on last year…

Because I didn’t leave the office until 11:30, I decided to take Metro to Bethesda, and ride home from there.

When I got to Bethesda Metro, the elevator was out of service. Last time this happened, they had told me to take my bike on the escalator, so I did the same thing this time. There is a reason that isn’t allowed. Bike bumped against the side, pushed me headfirst down the escalator, then flew over me. I struggled to get up (which wasn’t easy from the head down position), afraid I’d get to the top and my clothes would get caught. (People have lost body parts that way.) I was screaming, but no one could get to me. A tail light and my phone cradle broke off. A pannier, my phone, and a headlight flew off. I finally righted myself before the top, but the bike was now behind me on the escalator and got stuck, and I couldn’t get to it for a long time.

The one bit of good news is, station manager says if this ever happens again, I can use one of the free shuttle busses they always say are just for senior citizens and the disabled. I don’t actually have to wait until I become disabled by their escalators.

OMG. Hope you are feeling ok this morning…that is just awful. I thank you for the warning though…I would not have thought twice about getting on an escalator with a bike in similar circumstances!

Yes, at least one mile every day of the (not a) competition. Bike Arlington has usually given those with perfect attendance some sort of swag, there’s been a BA cap, a scarf, and I can’t remember the others at the moment.

Not to mention maximum points possible for you and your ream!

Remember that we typically don’t have all that many days when snow tires are essential. Riding every day is not mandatory. And I’ve managed perfect attendance several years without snow tires. On bad days, I’d carry my bike to the nearest plowed road for a sleaze ride.

Agree! I have done FS for 3 years with perfect attendance without snow tires or studded tires…timing is every thing. What I have done is a midnight ride in advance of impending bad weather…or waited out a storm!
But recently got a mountain bike with studded tires on the cheap and I’m dying to try it out for fun!
