1/1/2022 The Legato School, a one-room school house, built 1876 -1877. was in use until 1930. It was moved to its current site on Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax City to honor the FCPS Centennial in 1971.

It did not have the collection of books that I expected. They were all children’s books. It sorely needed books for adults.

    3/19/2021 – “Freezing Saddles” 5-letter word (or longer) sub-anagram

I chose garden. I am going to miss this game. It has been a source of inspiration for my ride everyday during Freezing Saddles. Thanks Ricky and Jo for a wonderful game.

3/18/21 – Blue US Postal Service Collection Box

“They” seemed to have removed most so the Blue Postal Service Collection Boxes in my area. I have looked for them before and only know of one about a mile (and 2 extremely busy roads) from my house. Maybe I do not see them in “the wild” because I live so close to the Fairfax City Post Office.

3/17/21 – Rainbow, Leprechaun, or Four Leaf Clover

I was out riding with friends this morning thinking I would need to go out later in the day to hunt down a Rainbow, Leprechaun, or Four Leaf Clover. Our ride did not include neighborhoods or business districts, which is where I thought I would have the best chance of finding something. As we were riding past the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton I caught this mural out of the corner of my eye. I just had to stop, turn around and take a picture. I’ve seen this mural dozens of times, just never noticed the rainbows in the mural.

This paved wormhole connects Melville Lane via Marshall Hall Lane to Red Admiral Place. From Red Admiral Place you can take Red Admiral Way to Federal Systems Park to avoid part of the Fair Lakes Parkway. I’ll call this the Marshall Hall wormhole.

    3/14/2021 Scientist

Scientist — Ronald Davis, PhD, a world-class geneticist at Stanford University whose legendary research helped crack the code of DNA. His breakthrough work led to dozens of patents and laid the groundwork for the Human Genome Project, revolutionizing modern biology by giving scientists a complete map of all genes in the human species.

After his son, Whitney Dafoe, then in his 20s, came down with myalgic encephalomyelitis — better known as chronic fatigue syndrome Davis turned his research to try to find a cure for ME/CFS.

During the global pandemic, Davis’ search for a cure for ME/CFS could also shed new light in understanding why some Covid-19 long haulers have stayed sick for more than a year.

3/13/2021 Black cat, ladder or umbrella

While on my ride today I did see a few ladders being carried by trucks moving on the secondary roads but, alas, I was not fast enough to take a picture of any of those ladders. Yesterday, on my ride through neighborhoods I did see a number of ladders leaning against houses where work was being done. However, today, we really were not in neighborhoods so no such luck. But, we were at two parks. And, what is sometimes at parks? Why playground equipment. I found the playground equipment and sure enough there was a ladder. I was hoping not to worry the parents while I quickly captured a picture of the ladder on the playground equipment. Nobody chased me down as I left the playground so I guess I wasn’t too worrisome to the parents.

    3/11/2021 face using pareidolia

this face just jumped out at me as I was cutting through the back of a shopping center. It’s on the back of a street sweeper and the sweeper’s name is Broom Bear. The eyes are closed with heavy eyelashes and has a tiny nose and a straight smile.
