We need a Monday club. And a Saturday morning
Can’t help you with Saturdays, but Monday…
Would there be any interest from PGish/MoCoesque folks in a regular Monday coffeeclub at Vigilante in Hyattsville? It’s right off the Trolly Trail and Route 1, just north of the NE/NW Branch intersection, for those who have never been there before. They’re insanely bikefriendly (Chris, their owner, is a bikecommuter himself, riding in from DC) and have coffee good enough to make even me willingly deal with mornings.

I apologize to my teammates for putting on another layer on sunscreen as I recline poolside on my February Caribbean cruise while you put on another layer of clothes as you shiver through another February polar vortex.
If there is a velodrome (or somewhere to ride) on that boat, I want to see the Strava track. Going in circles on a moving ship in the middle of the ocean would be cool.
Otherwise, we’ll just take solace in the fact that, snotcicles notwithstanding, we get to ride and you don’t.

ParticipantI apologize now for all the awful puns, bad jokes, and occasional worse Latin that go into my ride titles. The amount of groaning and lamentation will be prodigious—or will be if I’m doing things correctly.

ParticipantNot saying Tuesday won’t happen, but yes, Saturday sounds good.

Another newbie silver springer here…. I bike everyday but am new the winter cycling. This is my first winter I intend to bike everyday, I’m hoping freezing saddles will provided the motivation I need to keep it going all winter. I look forward to not being A newbie here for long and participating here in anyway I can.
-Eric WilliamsStep 1: Hack elwbikes computer. Note to self: learn how to do this in the next 90 minutes. Could be tricky.
Step 2: Somehow rejigger her selection algorithm to put a few Marylanders (Brünø Moore, Rod Smith, ewilliams, Greenbelt) on one team. Hey, makes total sense. It’s basic geography, right?
Step 3: Whistle innocently at happy hour when teams are announced. Philosophers can’t use computers! It’s just happenstance!
Step 4: Be prepared to sprint like a bat out of Hell when nobody buys that innocent whistling. Also, I’m thinking Tuesday, 6 January might be a good time for a Vigilante Justice Greater Hyattsville Bikecoffeefest. Any takers?

ParticipantShortcake Bakery is just off the head of the NW Branch—and you pick up the Trolley Trail not much further north on RIA by Vigilante. Pastry and coffee at one, coffee and pastry at the other. I don’t know if Arundel Road in Mt. Ranier counts as a path, but if it did, Island Style Ice Cream is the best-kept ice cream secret in greater DC, despite all my best efforts to let other people in on it. Of course, there’s also the Maryland Dairy (and Maryland Food Collective) in the back of the Stamp Union, just off the Paint Branch Trail on the shortcut through campus you take to get to the NW Branch/Sligo Creek. Oh, and Fishnet just off the Trolley Trail, though I don’t know if I think of that as “bike treat” so much as “best beer in CP”

Just watched the Proteus video again. So you’re Bruno!!!! We’ve met but I didn’t put the name with the face before.
Being Brünø has been my one brush with celebrity; especially after last year’s dicycle video, in which I trotted out the alias again, I’d have complete strangers come up to me in the bike lanes, when parking Val the Inschwinnerator, or at Baltimore Bike Party and tell me they loved my work.
Sorry everyone. No autographs. Those of you who have seen my handwriting know why you wouldn’t want one.

I had to look her up. I wish.
Had to look her up too…and then noticed that she graduated from my high school the year before I arrived. So that’s two reasonably famous people* who went there…
As for me: “Brünø Moore, with the dots over the ‘u’ and a line through the ‘o'” comes from that one time I raced the Giro d’Italia. We needed a name, and our director pulled out his phone with the comic name generator app on it; “Bruno Moore, ex barista” was the first thing we found, and I ran with it. I’ve very nearly used it a couple times when racing on one-day licenses.
Those of you who know about my coffee habit know why it’s appropriate.
*The other being Sam Bradford, a Heisman-winning hotshot quarterback from the Big XII who went to the pros, saved his struggling team during his great rookie season before the knee issues started. No, the other one.

ParticipantHm…a fair number of Trolly Trail (Hyattsville/College Park) people here.
Perhaps a bit of Vigilante justice might be in order.

ParticipantBiking from Proteus to Shirlington (yes, I’m a Marylander—had to look up where Shirlington was)? Yeah, those of you unlucky enough to not be on my team are so going down.

ParticipantWhile I’m all for randomish teams (with keeping the supermegariders separated—I’m guessing it’d work out more-or-less to be about the same as handicapping), there’s a part of me that would like a bit of geographic unity—bias things towards, say, having Marylanders and NE DCists on one team, rather than matching someone from Greenbelt with a teammate out in Reston. Ride as a team, freeze as a team, lose your frikkin’ mind as a team.
I’m going through the recaps of last year’s pointless prizes. I may just have to sponsor one of my own.
