Hi, this is Jeff, bad but nevertheless esteemed captain. I and reluctant elf doggie welcome you to Team 4’s main social page. Please bookmark this thread for info on social rides, as well as complaints, questions, concerns, encouragement, advice, and so on.
Please join this club: https://www.strava.com/clubs/335178 if and only if you’re a member of this team.
My goals for this year are to ride safe, avoid crashes and illness, have lots of fun rides, including cooperative rides with teams 5 and 6 (and perhaps others) who share our main ride region, which is DC northward and eastward into northern Prince Geo’s county and eastern Montgomery. I ride mostly out of Proteus bike shop so I will frequently be mentioning those social rides for our mutual pleasure.
Apologies in advance for my bad captaincy — I will be on vacation and pretty much out of bike range from Jan 20 to Feb 3. So I’ll be asking others to please volunteer to coordinate rides and bike-oriented fun times.
Thanks, and Welcome!

Team 7 also volunteers for cooperative rides (I volunteer them). We seem to be lately congregated in PG County with a few here and there in MoCo. See you all at the Proteus rides

I guess maybe if his Garmin device doesn’t have BT and he has to manually upload rides? Like you, I turn on my Garmin, it auto-connects to my phone, auto-uploads the ride to GC when I’m done, then GC automatically sends the ride to Strava. It’s rare that I ever open the GC app or website (or Strava, for that matter).
The bolded section is basically what the issue is.
I can record my ride either via my Garmin Forerunner 35 or via my phone. The Garmin has the benefit of being able to track heart rate and instantly syncs to both GC and Strava. The phone has the benefit of more accurate elevation data, setting up ride titles at upload (rather than after the fact), and attaching pictures at time of upload rather than having to go back into the ride and make edits. I really wouldn’t care much about Garmin Connect, except that is how my Wellness program tracks my activites (I could also use MapmyRide, Apple Fitness or whatever that’s called, etc.). The only app that isn’t connected to my Wellness program is Strava….
Anyhow, it’s really not a big issue. I got the answer I was looking for. I wanted a way to do this with less active steps on my behalf (because I then forget to do them and never look at Strava, and I’m lazy and want to automate everything). Based upon the answers provided, Tapiriik is the only way to sync Strava to GC. So I need to choose whether:
– to use that service and spend a little extra money and give my info to yet another third party
– use my Garmin Forerunner 35 and force myself to pay attention to strava
– or use my phone and manually sync to GC but ensure that rides are not duplicated on Strava. Thanks all!

Or…just try a manual sync (which is free) and see what happens, before breaking anything now. But I like to live on the edge…
Yeah, that’s what I’ve done. Just need to make sure it doesn’t duplicate which is what it’s currently doing. Have to delete the duplicates on strava. Of course, I could always just record on my Garmin device and this would all be moot….. But then I don’t get to choose fancy new ride titles without going in to Strava and making edits. I just want it all done for me!!!!!!! Ok, I’ll stop whining now….

He wants to record on Strava and then have it go on to GC.
To OP, yes, tapiriik worked great for me before the auto sync was built in; however, I assume you will have same problem with duplicate rides?
Well, all I’d have to do is break the direct connect between GC and Strava so that the only source of synchronization is Tapiriik, and that would eliminate double rides. And precisely, record Strava, sync to GC.

Throwing this out there though I know nothing about it: has anyone looked at https://tapiriik.com/ ? It’s a 3rd party web-service that claims to be able to accomplish what you’re looking for (sync across different platforms and avoid duplicates).
That would be amazing! Anyone have experience with said third-party app? Is it trustworthy?

ParticipantGuess it’s time to revive this thread. I fortunately have nothing to contribute, but I did hear tale of a couple falls on icy trails.

#bafs2018 #beerneuring 001: Milk stout nitro @ Franklin’s Brewery in Hyattsville MD during the #proteusbicycles #saturdaysocialride. It was deluxious! And better than the frozen protein bar that I had in my goretex jacket pocket!! This is a limited time batch, so hurry on over, cuz once its gone, there ain’t no more!!
I also wanted to try the Rubber Chicken Red Ale, but I chickened out cuz it was too frickin’ cold outside, so I need to go back soon to get another beerneuring point!
(Q: Does wine [or cognac] count if its consumed with the beer?)

Wait! Does Franklin’s brew on site? Dammit, should’ve taken a picture of my beer…. Guess I’ll have to go back

ParticipantBased upon what I’m seeing in Strava, Garmin GPS units seem to be having a harder time than the riders

ParticipantI just realized I won’t be starting my trek to Bier Baron from my normal location, so I’m a little unsure of which route I should take. I’ll be starting up in Sandy Spring venturing south. I have planned the following route, basically taking Layhill down to Sligo Creek (once I hit Sligo, I know where I’m going). For those that are familiar with the area, do you have any comments or suggestions? A complete change up of routes? I’ve also thought about Layhill to Mathew Henson to CCT and onwards. Or is there a direct route south I should consider?

Edit: This alternative through Takoma Park has been suggested to me by friends

ParticipantSince this is really only going to affect rides for first day and for last day of competition for select few, would it not be easier to just have them modify their rides timestamp rather than mucking with the code?
