At what point does a known dangerous situation that is not addressed become negligence? Whether it be bridges that are too slippery to ride on without breaking bones or intersections/roads that result in high rates of car/pedestrian collisions, at some point those responsible for rectifying a dangerous situation should be held accountable, no?

I just bought me that vest for running…. and also using it for cycling!!!!! It’s called Noxgear and it’s on sale right now and it’s amazing!!!!!

“The number of children ages 6 to 17 who rode bicycles regularly — more than 25 times a year…”

So hopping on a bike twice a month is consider regular?

IIRC, the Expat has mechanical disc brakes. If you have the cash, I’d personally splurge for the upgrade to hydraulic disc brakes. Many will disagree, and mechanical discs are still great. The Renegade series is a nice bike, I own one, but you’ll likely need to replace the rear wheel within the first 2 years (took me 1.5 months to destroy the rear hub), and the headset rusts out in the rain pretty quickly as well. However, once I addressed those two issues, the bike has been amazing!

I’m not sure what you are even arguing………. Original post stated:
“Did you know that DC has a 65% chance of seeing a flood over 8 ft in the next 30 years?”

It then followed up and stated the climate change is spurring sea level rise. That’s not the same thing as saying that sea level rise will be the predominate driver of the 8-ft flood………………. (I seriously can’t use enough ‘……’ ;) )

Looking at the published Flood Insurance Study for Washington D.C. (hosted by FEMA, linked here: https://msc.fema.gov/portal/advanceSearch#searchresultsanchor), the Potomac River and the Anacostia River have a 1:50 year (2% Annual Exceedance Probability) flood stage of roughly 8.8-ft (datums are important). Over 30 years, the chance of a 2% AEP event NOT occurring is 54.5%. So based upon the best available data for these two major flooding sources, it is reasonable to suggest that a flood with a stage in excess of 8-ft NAVD88 has greater than 45% chance of occurring at least once. The 25-year (4% AEP) flood stage is 7.4-ft – 29.4% chance of not occurring.

So…… 45% chance of flood greater than 8.8-ft in the next 30 years, 70% chance of flood greater than 7.4-ft. 65% might be a little generous, but it’s not out of the realm once we look at future impacts.

Before we do this, we have to increase public transportation so that people who lose licenses have other options. In dense areas you can survive without a license. In suburbs and beyond, you can’t.

Chicken / egg. Strip people of ability to drive, you’ll see the demand for alternative transportation options shoot up.

… I know that this isn’t going to happen, and I’m really just venting about a fantasy of mine where people start taking responsibility or suffer real consequences.

Can we start treating having a drivers license like a privilege rather than a right, and implement a zero tolerance policy? You were at fault in an incident, say goodbye to your license. You are never allowed to step behind the wheel of a car again. Everyone is in favor of getting the “bad” drivers off the road, but no one wants to admit that they might be one of them. We’ll soon see a drastic reduction in vehicles on the road, increasing trip efficiency and safety for everyone!

Ceramic speed released a “study” not too long ago indicating that a noisy chain isn’t necessarily slower. Seems like their UFO wax also can be a bit noisy. I think you’re assessment is probably correct; the noise is from the plates rather than pins and rollers, and as long as the pins don’t wear, the chain won’t really stretch (hypothetically).

Very much appreciate the heads up. Chain Reaction spends a lot of money on advertising and looks to be a major player in the online bike parts sales. I will also be avoiding making any purchases through them. Sounds like they have failed to deliver their product to their customer, and you should be entitled to full refund.
