“Most panhandlers are not homeless, and most homeless are not panhandlers,” Kathy Sibert, CEO of A-SPAN, told the Arlington Connection newspaper earlier this summer.

Impressive. I would also be curious for a sense of what the numbers are in DC (not that our winters are comparable to Calgary’s!).

You’d be surprised. They do get more extremes, but thanks to a regional weather pattern called a Chinook (look it up DiCaprio), winter weather CAN be very mild in Calgary. It’s not uncommon to see weather in the 30s and 40s in Calgary in January and February. It’s also not uncommon to see it in the -10s and -20s, but who cares about that?

Sorry guys, I fell off the bandwagon for a week there, 3 missed days and a couple of sleaze rides for a very low mileage week. I ended up moving, which took a lot of energy out of me hence the low mileage. I’m back up to doing longer and more consistent rides again, and we can narrow that gap between us and the devious team10!!

Also, sure is fun to get buzzed by an oversize SUV when there’s plenty of space for them to move over (read: I’m on the shoulder and they have two lanes to choose and still buzz you). The fun part, catching up to them at a light, seeing them playing with their phone, and tearing into them about safe passing distance, seeing the look of terror that there is an enraged cyclist outside their window.

While I agree that high beams deserve to die in the most painful of fashions, I would characterize those with high beams still preferable over those ninjas with no beams.

Go ninja go ninja go ninja go!

Personally Bob, I would head down the ART to the South Capital Street bridge, take P Street SW to 4th Street, which takes you to the National Mall, then take the Rock Creek Park Trails to get there.

    Situation: Classic right hook x5
    Location: Sunnyside Avenue, Beltsville MD
    Perpetrator: FedEx delivery truck
Time: Approx. 10:18am Saturday January 21
Description: A group of five of us were out for a fun casual ride this morning, heading out to the farms north of Greenbelt. We were traveling east along Sunnyside Ave single file, close but not really pace line. A FedEx delivery truck overtook us, we weren’t really going fast, and neither was the truck. He probably took 15s or so to over take all 5 of us, plenty of time for him to notice us. I was leading the group. As we crossed the tracks, he turned right into the WMATA rail yard, as I was beside him, no further than 5 feet back. Fortunately we were all going fairly slow and able to slam the brakes to avoid. There were five very loud cursing cyclists at that one, fortunate that we didn’t hit him, and fortunate that we didn’t pile up on each other. I didn’t get the license plate, but have time and location. Very much considering calling FedEx to complain, but doubt it would do any good.

I think team 10 is cheating. Take off, eh, you hosers!!!

In all seriousness, nice mileage today folks. Making it tough for us mere mortals to keep up with you. Definitely going to have to step up our game
