A bike that I accessorized leaning against the new St Patrick’s art display at the Crystal City water park, National Landing, while out on a test ride in Arlington VA.

Belated 2/23: my bike’s wheel leaning (from the other side of the River) against perhaps the most iconic piece of art in architecture in DC: the Washington Monument (at night;-)

My bike leaning against the John Ericsson Memorial on Ohio Dr SW DC, (with Venus on the rise).

Ericsson invented the screw propeller and built the iron-clad Monitor during the civil war, enabling boat engines to be placed below the water line and away from cannon fire thus changing naval warfare forever. He then also developed the torpedo.

Belated 2/19 my bike leaning against “Flow” at the Shirlington Library in Arlington VA.

Flow was created by Erwin Redl specifically for this Shirlington Library. A sixty-four-foot band of light appears to travel gradually up the library’s facade. Visible at a distance, this movement invites our approach.

Once we enter the library, three shorter panels of flowing blue light along the exterior garden wall entice us farther into the space. Visiting at different times of the day reveals the varying ways Flow interacts with its urban environment. The title and movement of the work may suggest the flow of water, words, or visitors.

Belated 02/13/25: My bike’s brake lever hood leaning against a Hex symbol (of the 16-point variety) on a private home in Lynhaven, Alexandria VA. Hex symbols may or may not have any religious or pagan meaning but tourists certainly like to buy them anyway.
