ParticipantHere are some pics of the Blokes-Broads-Bikes-and-Brews team that rode in yesterday’s RBC2015 full and metric centuries….
In the beginning…
Halfway there at Round Hill rest stop (mile 46)
Almost there at Ashburn rest Stop (for the second time today @ mile 90)
SteveO’s post ride therapy…(after 103 miles!)

ParticipantConsensus on this thread seems to indicate that SteveO’s definition of “torrential” rain is unique from everyone else’s…as we already know that about his definition of “hill.”

ParticipantFor those planning to go and stay over the night before, PP has blocked 30 rooms (first come, first served) at Comfort Suites, 1937 Short Road, Kearneysville, WV, 25430…NOW SOLD OUT!! Try Martinsburg MD, about 9 miles out from the start line.

ParticipantMeanwhile, back on August 12th, on Pennsylvania Ave, in front of the International Monetary Fund building, I had this paparazzi moment with a local cycling celebrity while riding a Cabi bike

I believe during ‘cross season, proper etiquette dictates the eastbound rider first give a hearty “hup hup,” then jump off the bike while moving, shoulder it, hop over the barrier, run at least 50ft, then hop back over the barrier and remount while running.
I thought that I was following proper etiquette, but I obviously was so overwhelmed by meeting bike royalty, that I forgot the “hup hup” protocol.

ParticipantMy headcount is 15 confirmations (including me) – – between the B4 group calendar, PMs and this thread – – as follows:
Amalitza, Bettina, Colin, Edwin (work permitting), Hank & Henry (metric), F148vr (aka HF), Jim (still needs more peer pressure, hint, hint), Kitty, MK, Powerful Pete, SarahB, SteveO & Trey.
Popular opinion is to roll from Reston Towne Center starting line at 0630! Be there, or see you at the post ride buffet!
Shout out if your name is not on the above list, and you want to connect with other cyclists doing this ride.

ParticipantAnd a good time was had by all who braved the rainstorm that didn’t happen:)

ParticipantThis is what it looked like today during my lunch hour commute into DC. It is a much better angle to view oncoming, westbound traffic coming across the bridge. It was smooth riding, too, so I guess it’s open for use once again.

be careful out there folks, bad weather a brewin’ this evening, and social lubrication some times makes you feel invincible.
Riding with Powerful Pete would make anyone feel invincible.

Pardon my ignorance, but where (street address) is the meeting place for the Boomer Beer Train (BBT) this evening?
I may be able to sneak out of work to make it there in time…Google Maps does not yet have the TJ Memorial Capitol Bikeshare station listed, but this is the bus stop right next to it:

ParticipantRod Smith and Phil Melton have also volunteered as ride marshalls, FYI, but WABA is calling for more.

Oh man, I’d love to join, but probably can’t make it that early. I’m more likely to roll out around 5 pm.
Four Mile Run is right by the water, coming off of Mt. Vernon Trail. Does it flood as easily as Holmes Run does? Should I consider an alternative DC to Shirlington route?
Departure time changed to 5:15pm due to popular demand [emoji4]

Yes, 4MR does flood, but it takes quite a bit for that to happen…if so, you can bail out of the MVT at DCA, taking the exit to Crystal City, ride to the sewage plant, and pick up the 4MR trail there (which usually doesn’t flood unless we have a monsoon event).
