ParticipantKayakCyndi and I saw the “dog sled” man training his team on the WOD gravel trail in Vienna on our way to the Green Lizard for a real coffee. Very cool way to start the day

But the NWS only reported .16 inches of rain for the day.
The NWS obviously needs to put a rain gauge on the lawn of the Takoma Park rest stop yard, in front of the porch, where we hid from the sheets of rain, for the second year in a row.

Despite the “DAMNIT BOOMER” tally reaching 6, thank you sir for your marshaling and letting me ride with you! In conditions like that, on a ride like that, it really meant a lot to me to have someone on the road ahead to follow after, even if it meant chasing sometimes.
We marshals take our duty seriously to leave no rider left behind…until we are in striking distance of beer[emoji4]….
…but it was a pleasure to have you stick it out and chase us down after every turn, Hill and light, on what was a very tough and challenging route. I think it means you are ready to ride witg us, and anyone else, from here on out. I look forward to seeing you on my wheel again soon.

ParticipantThe WAAS were well represented at the WABA #50states ride, especially w/ SteveC & Dana in the front of the pack
At the Burrito Rest Stop (burp), across from Eastern Market
Hiding from the rain at rest Stop #3 to adjust shoe cleats while sipping free coffee ☕ samples
And the post ride party @ Mellow Mushroom was the highlight again of the #50states ride!

Hard to tell, but maybe Ben from Proteus? I know he’s an avid unicyclist.
Possibly, but that would mean that he was far away from his shop and out early in my neck of the NOVA woods:)

Will forum folks be meeting up at the happy hour afterwards? Would love to see you in person.
Tradition is to end at Mellow Mushroom in Adams Morgan for the Post Ride Celebration where you can enjoy a complimentary beer, additional food and drink specials, and pick up your snazzy 50 States & 13 Colonies Ride t-shirt.

I am doing the 50 states ride for the first time. Who else is doing it? Any advice from those who have done it before? Just don’t tell me that it is hard because I’ve done Kill Bill.
I am doing it as a Marshall as are Colin, Phil and HF. I know of at least 4 others who are registered: Edwin, MK, Sarah Bee & SteveO.
I agree with getting a jump on the crowd in the beginning for the reason stated. You also want to pay close attention to the Cue-sheet, as there are over 200 turns on this route. As such, e be everyone makes a wrong turn at some point during the ride. But just keep clam and ride on until you cross a street named after one of 50 States and then join the first convoy that comes along.
If you eat the entire burrito at the lunch stop, you will have a food coma, or lose it climbing a big Hill.
It will rain. You will be wet. You will give thanks for it when it’s over.
Don’t lose your coupon for free beer after the ride is over.

Uh there’s only three month per season though.
I meant the fairer weather “bicycling” season, and not the winter, spring, summer, fall seasons. The 10 months was because it has symmetry with the 10 centuries….but the time frame could easily be something else.

Are those official event centuries or merely 100+ mile rides? What do they do for the other two months? I’m currently on 56 consecutive months with at least one 100+ mile ride.
SarahB is still working up the concept and I’ve encouraged her to post it as a thread on this forum for reactions/recruitment. My understanding is that it merely 100+ mile rides, but tracked by some type of GPS based app. She is also considering a metric century version, too, for cyclists not yet ready for full centuries. Look for a thread soon from her on this for the 2016 calendar year.

Yes, he’s put on more than 2000 miles since May.
I also sent out a email to my ad hoc cycling group, reminding then to join the NBC2015 & WAAS, how easy it is, and included a link to this thread. FYI.

ParticipantRegrets, as I’m am scheduled to be on a business trip to London that week, or else I would confirm T2H2 right here and now.

Man! I need to be sure to remember this thread next spring when I’m planning out my century schedule. If this year’s goal was complete one… who knows for next year. Two? Three? Travel? So many choices!
You should join @SarahB 10-100-10 Club…10 century rides in 10 months…for next year, 2016:)

ParticipantI saw this big wheel unicylist on the gravel alongside the Custis Trail at Great Falls intersection, heading west, at about 8am this morning. Very cool. Anyone know who this unicylist is? And no, it wasn’t SteveO!
