I will be interviewing a number of people involved with the Penn Ave Cycletrack about what is and isn’t happening to fix the cycletrack for Greater Greater Washington in the coming weeks. Hopeful it will provide new insight and background as to what will be done or not done in the future. So look for it in the near future.

Such a great day volunteering at the Rosslyn pit stop. Met a bunch of new folks and saw pretty much everyone from the forum. The I ran into Bluerider on my way to work. He was enjoying “bike to fun day” as he was skipping work and heading to Purceville. Hope you enjoyed the BBQ, great riding with you today!

This is a non-sighting report… May not have been someone from the forum either.

I was late out of the barn to get to the Wednesday night ride. I was hammering out the W&OD riding solo on the tandem. I caught the light at Gallows Road about right and two guys heading the other direction (who I heard, but didn’t see) said, “Was that Pete?”

I yelled back, “Yup! That was Pete!” but had to keep hammering. I made it out to pick up Chris and then back to the ride start and was 90 seconds early. I paid for that hammerfest later in the evening when I ran out of gas about 10 minutes after leaving Lake Fairfax Park.

On an unrelated note, but worthy of documenting… Cat6 Pathletes riding $6000 carbon road bikes react rather negatively to being passed by a guy riding solo on a HUGE, full suspension, 29er, mountain bike tandem. I won’t go into details except to say that I heard expletives spoken.

Did you ride past yelling “Wuss, wuss, wuss”? Cause if you past them riding that, they should be sad and embarrassed for themselves.

I have a SRAM Apex group on my Blue Norcross. I have no major complaints. Generally, SRAM uses the same features across their groups but uses different materials (ie. weight). I like that Apex uses sealed bearings in the pivot points rather than bushings. The Apex front derailleur could be stiffer and will probably be exchanged soon for Rival or Force. The shifters and crankset are good and reliable, no future plans to change out. The chainrings are all the same between Apex, Rival, and Force. The crank arms are aluminum on Apex and Rival versus carbon for Force and Red. But the crank is relatively stiff and works well. I have changed out the rear derailleur for Force only because it was a crime of opportunity. You need to be ok with the Double Tap SRAM shifting. If you like it, Apex will be fine.

Thanks, the 853 steel frame is so nice. Bike weighs about 15lbs. I used a White Industries eccentric ENO hub:

Thanks, if you ever decide to sell it or hear of one for sale locally. Please let me know.

Picked the LeMond this morning, explained to my wife it’s my favorite and I love it. My other bikes were like WTF, we can hear you.
Then on the commute in I saw 2 other Zurichs in the same blue / yellow paint, probably same year. Something’s going on.

I really dig that ride. I so want a steel/alum single speed with some style like that. What rear hub are you using with that style of dropout? I think I still see a derailleur hanger.

    Everyone,
Thanks for your help. I just bought some Giro Gauge (one step above) the Privateer on clearance at Performance Bike for $142. The fit great and have the multi-insole adjustment system and a decent price for carbon soles. I went for it. As I matter of fact, they had Giro Codes, Mavic Fury and lots of other high-end shoes there on clearance. The Fury’s were bright bright yellow.

Looking forward to the first ride with the Gauge’s

I have the K-Edge mount and like it very much. I haven’t noticed any plastic shaving. I like the two piece design because it lets you adjust the location of your Garmin to avoid brake cables and other things. Plus, you have the flexibility to move it to your liking. Its very solid and secure. No complaints at all except its a little pricey but so are the others for a little piece of plastic.

The owner of the light is not a forum member but if on Twitter it’s @velowanderingdc

He is the lights rightful owner. Let me know if I can be of further service.

It started wearing a cap last year because my helmet padding would soak up so much sweat that it would eventually wring out like a sponge and run down into my eyes while riding. The cycling cap keeps the helmet padding dryer and eliminates the sweat waterfall I have experienced in the past. The cap probably extends the life of my helmet as well. Plus, all the other advantages Dirt mentioned earlier.

I have often seen the MVT trail patrol. They are very welcoming generally speaking.
