ParticipantThanks Sunyata! Looking forward to seeing everyone out there since it was impossible to catch up with everyone I wanted to see at HH.

I captured a bearded energy card and a bearded Trubbish. The cards were a tad bit soft from the rain.
Tag yourself. I’m Basic Trubbish.

Having W=2 wheelsets makes switching to studs and back easy.
If I could get away with throwing money at the problem I immediately would. Long-term I’ll get myself some fancy wheels and relegate the stock set to abusive conditions.

ParticipantIncident free… so far. My N=1 bike has tubeless 37c Riddlers so I don’t want to deal with switching between those and studded tires.
I’ve also been praying to my 2017 London Bridge medallion on behalf of The Fallen.

ParticipantI plan to be there.

ParticipantAlso I just want to apologize to Tania for the sorry state in which we left her thread. She deserves better and we have all let her down.

In all seriousness about sweat and cold – isn’t this what wool helps deal with? I thought it was like one step below a wetsuit.
Wool is great but it doesn’t dry as well as synthetics. I like to wear a polypropylene mesh base under my wool base for wicking purposes. It keeps my core a lot dryer, especially my back.

No. This is actually a terrible idea. Plastic (and items like plastic such as latex or nitrile gloves on hands) do not breathe at all. Your hands/feet WILL sweat. That sweat has nowhere to go. The sweat then gets cold, as wet things tend to do when it is chilly out. Then your extremities get even colder, which could potentially lead to nerve/tissue damage, frost bite, or hypothermia.
But amputating digits allows me to shed grams and improve my power to weight.

ParticipantSounds great!
…but now I’m out of town.

tl;dr – Wind stopping goes on the outside. Base layers go on the inside. Q.E.D. – base layers that are wind stopping are non-sensical
Thank you for stopping your own wind. :p

ParticipantPerhaps the sound of crickets means everyone’s busy/on travel/hates my guts. Catch you all next time!

The previous responses seem to have addressed keeping the toes warm, but not keeping the bike upright.
Lending a shovel to keep trails clear boosts Bike Karma and provides a magic cloak of protection.
