ParticipantSpeaking of rain, does anyone have any good recommendations for waterproof gear that won’t break the bank? I’ve got stuff that’s wonderful in bitter freezing weather, but my gloves and shoe covers just soak through in cold, heavy rain and then I’m miserable with numb extremities.

BAFS may need to be extended year-round to keep some of us, ahem, off the metro
The Metro is doing a pretty good job of keeping me off the Metro.

Oh great… now that you’ve pointed this out, I have to get a TRON Blue bike as part of my ongoing rivalry.
Well the good news is the TCR Advanced 2 seems like a lot of bike for the money. Fight for the users.

I thought I didn’t like red bikes until I saw that TCX. That “TRON Red” glows in the dark.

Sorry – it’s closed. Probably for good, but they say it’s just for maintenance. I biked their once and, by going through the Greensboro Metro station to get over Rt. 7, it was just fine. However, there was a distinct lack of bike parking. The bouncer watched my bike.
Aw that sucks. I only managed to get there once last year.

To summarize – this topic seems to foster a degree of talmudic discussion. You will be fine if you follow the prime directive – “Don’t be a jerk.”
Agreed. I couldn’t give two đŠs about the letter of the law regarding e-bikes as long as you’re riding considerately and safely. And don’t embarrass me too much on the hills, please.

I believe the great folks at Bikenetic may have finagled something to make a mountain derailleur work with a road shifter for someone’s cross bike that was swapped to an 11-42 ten speed cassette. You may ask Jan or Pete about it.
I was eyeing Jan’s Raleigh Tamland last week and noticed he had a mountain RD and pulley to adapt the ratio to work with his road STIs. So yeah, definitely talk to them.

ParticipantTysons is definitely… interesting. I’ll be curious to see how it all changes as it continues to become more urbanized. My wife works there and it’s always seemed like a very car-centric area. Westpark Drive and Greensboro Drive do seem bike-friendly, though some of the intersections seem fairly daunting. It’s definitely an area where I try to plan my route ahead of time.
With all the exploration you folks have done, it’s a shame you didn’t run across Tysons Biergarten.

We’re not comparing plowing 395 with the Custis Trail. The main bike commuter corridors, even in the winter, accommodate more people going to work than many residential side streets, and every single one of those gets plowed. Prioritizing the trails below parking lots is an insult.
Additionally, several key sections of trail are also critical pedestrian corridors to Metro, particularly Rosslyn, Ballston and EFC.
I have options and can choose to commute by car, but not everyone does. We need to keep these trails rideable in a timely manner.

I’d spent the weekend in Boston at a videogame convention, and this was my first ride back. These socks are in reference to Fallout 3, a game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic DC
Strava Ride – March 13O_o I had no idea those socks existed! They are đ … SPECIAL.
