Is today International Missed Connections Day and I wasn’t informed? Once I crossed the DC line my commute turned into a farce.

This is by far the best clip from the highlight reel:

Me: Sweet Jamis Renegade heading east in the bike lane on L St NW approaching the intersection of 18th St NW. The traffic signal shows a red left arrow and a green forward arrow and I’m going straight.
You: Ugly black Lincoln MKZ driving straight in the lane outside the protected bike/turn lane putting on a left turn signal at the last minute and attempting to turn left. On a red. Blocking auto traffic. From the wrong lane. Across the bike lane. Nearly left hooking me.
You again: Rather than make an illegal left you come to your senses and proceed straight… all the way through the bike lane until the left turn lane at L and Connecticut.
    Me: O_O

We were just talking about salmons in bike lanes. Today was the day for my first encounter with one – on Braddock St. by the metro station.

I was of course prepared for this day, with my jousting lance. My opponent was on a CaBi, sneering at me to bring it on, as she rolled towards me. I struck her solidly with the lance and…

Idea: Spring-loaded aero bars that extend into jousting lances.

Maybe a Kona Tonk? Seems like a nice, honest steel bike. But yeah, if your components are good, a frameset sounds like a the way to go.

I’ve got a 1080p projector hooked up and an old 720p projector in storage. I could grab whichever one still has a bright bulb.

Mark Hamill AKA, Luke Skywalker went to Annandale too. Perhaps a light saber to enforce the 3 foot rule?

Sandra Bullock went to Washington and lee IIRC.

I’m sort of partial to Weenie Bernie for that. I may sketch Grohl holding a 3ft hot dog.

I’ve done that section in steady rain before and it’s not really THAT bad. But my bike wasn’t happy with me after.

Ah well, maybe Judd can convince me to do some (shudder) HP laps.

That may be your best bet. The sidewalks on M seem to have fairly limited rack options and the side streets seem a little too quiet. Too bad you’re not there on Thurs when I could sneak your bike into my client’s office.

BTW, will you be around for L! G! A! Lazy Edition?

I’m likely also doing GRUSK, cause apparently my friends are doing it and I’m desperate to fit in.

Is there room for one more bike on your rack? Asking for a friend.

So… I just realized this is the same day as GRUSK. I might be OK with DVR at a later date.

Well, there’s Ian MacKaye, but I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be cool with having his likeness co-opted.

It really WAS lovely. In fact, I wish I had taken more photos. This was like Tania’s, coming down from the summit – HUGE smile. It was a REALLY fun day!

    Ah, from your pre-roadie days.

Ok so looking at Tania’s GRUSK pic, I guess it was slightly different conditions to HBR after all.

I like how you posted a still from Aguirre, the Wrath of God with the phrase “slightly different conditions.”

GRUSK and HBR are both great events – I’d go back to do both if I had the chance. HBR is unquestionably tougher imo. I’d consider bringing spare brake pads if it’s rainy.

This confirms that GRUSK is a better place to start for someone at my level.
