ParticipantThis guy has got to go. He’s a major nuisance and has nearly caused an accident a few times. During rush hour on the trail, having one of the two lanes blocked is a big deal. Also, I have seen him up and moving around in the morning while in the bike lane. The police have to make it clear to this person that this part of the park is not a good place to sleep. If he chooses to live outside, that’s his choice. But he should be choosing to do that somewhere that’s safe for him and safe for others.

ParticipantIt should be a fun commute home in the rain today.
But it should be warmer – so I’m only going for a t-shirt and my rain jacket with my full-length bib.

ParticipantEven better – a gun rack: http://www.cyclelicio.us/2008/11/gun-racks-for-bicycles.html

ParticipantI think team ‘II’ needs a logo.
How about ‘eye-eye’:

or an ‘aye-aye’:

What do you think? haha…

ParticipantThe first thing to do in the rain is slow down – I’ve often laid my bike down in the rain because of wet conditions combined with recklessness and speed and it’s not fun.
You said you’re getting fenders – but don’t forget full-coverage gloves and a hood either connected to your jacket or one that goes over the collar of your jacket.
Then I’d say lights are important – it’s harder to see in the rain. One last thing to think about is the number of layers you’re wearing. The rain this week will bring cold, but not that much cold. Try not to triple-up on layers. Once the outer one is wet, it will get the other layers wet, then your kit gets heavier, you get slower, and you’re in the rain longer.
Good luck!

ParticipantYou: older guy on a black fixie and knickers.
Me: on a red bike with too many lights
Where: four mile run trail between the end of w&od and mvtI didn’t hear you at all behind me – but you passed very slowly and then slowed down in front of me. We kept pace all the way to my exit in crystal city – but it would have been great to talk to you on the ride – did you have earphones in so you couldn’t hear me?

ParticipantI made this mistake yesterday. The thermometer on my garage read 23 degrees so I put on another layer – which was a complete disaster. I got sweaty, fogged up my glasses, and ended up being just as cold and that much slower

ParticipantSquirrels – you and me were the only ones on my 6 mile commute this morning. I missed you – but not by a lot.

I’m looking forward to joining in. Could you put me on a team please?

Um, headwinds for those of us coming from the East…
This will not be fun. We had strong winds earlier in the week too. My output is still 90RPM, but I can’t shift up without leg pain – only 18mph
