ParticipantZipcar tells you if a bike fits in a car (but you might only see that if you’re a member) – I’ll dig around and see if they have any Hyundai Elantras.

ParticipantFWIW, the new Lynskey trade-in program looks kind of cool

ParticipantSwrve – I’ve had 5 pairs over the years and keep going back.
Twinsix – Have heard there can be sizing issues
Chrome Industries – Don’t know much about them, but I suspect they’re good
Giro New Road – Alas, no knickers, but great looking shorts and trousers
Levi’s Commuter Series – no knickers, only shorts and pants.
Cadence – Trousers and Jeans only. I love their gear.
Upright Cyclist has some shorts that are knicker length too.

I’m talking stop and go once it’s clear. Cars do a lot of dumb things, but they don’t do that.
Just to add one more kink – in some places cars actually do stop at a red, verify, then proceed.
I lived in Brazil for 5 years and late-night carjackings/hold-ups are common enough that drivers will very often proceed through a red at night if it’s clear.Doesn’t apply here, but its certainly practiced frequently elsewhere – and I’m sure there are plenty of other driving habits around the world that would surprise us here.

Honest question: Why shouldn’t drivers drive in the cycletrack when no bikes are around?
Why wouldn’t that logic apply to stopping at red lights when you’re on a bike?
If they can enter and exit the cycletrack at any point, then you could make the case that they should be allowed to. But if a driver sees no cyclist on a given block of the L. St. cycletrack, enters, and starts driving down…then if a cyclist pulls out of a garage half-way down the block it becomes a dangerous situation…unless the car can (and does) immediately exit the cycletrack. I think it comes down to a difference of distance/duration.
A rider can (could, rather) proceed through a red with no vehicles present, because they should be able to see far enough in any direction to determine that no car could arrive at the intersection before they’re safely through it. You can’t always say the same about a given length of cycletrack.

ParticipantAlso, check with @dailyrandonneur and @chasingmailboxes on Twitter – Ed and Mary have lots of experience riding the roads around Marshall.

ParticipantI’d be willing to bet that the cost of the infraction is less than the marginal cost of having the officer issue the ticket.
The overly-zealous NPP enforcement at HP has made me much less likely to ride there lately.

ParticipantSadly, the owners who are opposed to bikes on patios are only willing to adhere (rather blindly) to the association bylaws. They’re also loathe to entertain any discourse with other owners who want to try to find a solution that accomodates more people.
It came up at last night’s HOA meeting, and its really disheartening to see how people who I otherwise get along with pretty well are so vehement in their opposition to some very managable requests.
Anyways, I’d rather avoid a fine that is more money than I paid for the bike in the first place.

Sorry, I meant the beer specials start at 4… no?
I may try to meet you guys on the MVT at Crystal City at 4:20 or so. Wouldn’t be able to stay past 5:30 and not 100% sure I can go, so if you don’t see me when you are riding by, then don’t stop to wait.

ParticipantGood point – when I started that sentence, I was going to write “allow you to post the sign along the trail…” but then changed to the vending machine idea mid sentence.
Just a matter of how long the sign stays up before its taken down (and put back up again…)

ParticipantI wonder if they’d allow you to post a printed version of this on the Vending machine at the waterpark.

Here is the official response, from earlier in this thread.
I think vvill, jopamora and I were already drinking around 3PM for last year’s BAFS final Happy Hour.

ParticipantCount me in. Any way I can count the ride to get to Cap City retroactively to help improve my anemic BAFS mileage totals?

Lots more people everywhere I want to ride. Of course, to each of them, I’m one of the “lots more people.”
You’re not stuck in traffic, you *are* traffic.

ParticipantGood luck to you guys – it was absolutely miserable riding 2 laps at 5PM this afternoon. My ShowersPass Hardshell gloves finally gave up the ghost about 1 1/2 laps in and left me with cold wet hands for the rest of the ride home. The Rapha hardshell performed flawlessly, however.
