ParticipantWe have done the ride several times, staying overnight in NJ. On the morning of the ride, we have parked at the ferry. Taking the ferry over early in the morning is easy and after the ride, you do not need to ride the (crowded) ferry back.

Participantthere is a large vacuum truck parked on the trail at the 90 degree bend coming down from brandymore castle. hopefully it will be cleared by evening commute time, but it was very narrow and noisy at 1230.

Participanthas anyone seen any result of the investigation?
the last i saw was on 21 september on arlnow.com:“County staff continue to investigate the issue and are trying to determine the source of the foam,” Harn told ARLnow.com. “However, the discharge that caused the foam is no longer occurring and no source has yet been identified.”

Participant“To possess a bicycle is to be able first to look at it, then to touch it. But touching is revealing as insufficient; what is necessary is to be able to get on the bicycle and take a ride. But this gratuitous ride is likewise insufficient; it would be necessary to use the bicycle to go on some errands. And this refers us to longer uses … But these trips themselves disintegrate into a thousand appropriative behavior patterns, each one of which refers to others. Finally, as one could foresee, handing over a bank note is enough to make a bicycle belong to me, but my entire life is needed to realize this possession.”

Participantmy fg came with 46×18 (~68 gear inches) and 700×25 tires. it has been fine everywhere (w&od, custis, mvt, capital crescent, dc streets, arlington streets, etc).

The cue sheet is part of the challenge.
ha, yes indeed. a few years ago the group we were in missed a turn somewhere and we stopped to determine how to get back on the cue sheet. i brought out the folded dc bike map and my friend brought out his new iphone. we had a race to see who could find the missed turn first. i almost beat him, if not for the all the folds in the map.

Participantit happened to me. i opened the brakes and rode home – carefully, about 10 miles. the lbs replaced the spoke and trued the wheel. no damage.

Participantwhilst at a family reunion in grand rapids, michigan, i watched part of the usa cycling pro criterium race. walking around the circuit (several times), among the spectators, i saw a bicycle with really fat tires – made me think of one of dirt’s bikes. i talked with the owner. he said the fat tires were useful in snow (and sand) and he rides all through the winter. the bicycle was made by 616 bicycle fabrication of west michigan. as we talked, he offered to let me, a complete stranger, take it for a ride. it was fun, very cushy, but more difficult to pedal and steer.
people in grand rapids are very friendly.bikesnick
Participanti rode through here for the first time since it has been open.

Many things cause brake squealing. Pad choice, …
interesting. one of my bikes is squealing and even shuddering. the pads are new, the rims have been cleaned (including lightly sanded and wire-brushed), and i have attempted to toe-in the pads. (the brakes are old-style side pulls so there are no conical washers).
the bike is an old schwinn worldsport that i rescued from a dumpster. it has been completely disassembled, cleaned, regreased, and reassembled. the tires/tubes and brake cables are new. i wanted to convert it to a fixed gear, but it has a freehub, and is now a single speed.
so, could the pads i purchased be incorrect? (the bike tech at the store told me the pads were the right choice.) -
