ParticipantCatching up on some doughneuring.
2/18 Hit a Dunkin Donuts in Columbia Heights (14th and Girard) in search of a Berliner. They had a raspberry jam and a Bavarian creme. Not sure if the raspberry one counts since they were both heart shaped. Probably left-over from Valentine’s Day as they were both a bit stale.

2/19 Feeling rather unsatisfied, hit a 7-11 in Shaw (7th St and Rhode Island) the next day. They didn’t have a Berliner there either so settled on a regular glazed donut. They are just like the Krispy Kreme ones, light and airy–I can eat them all day.

2/20 Was at Kapnos on U St for happy hour and didn’t realize the Greeks have their own version of donuts called Loukoumades. Doughy balls, fried, and then doused in honey, they remind me of the Indian Gulab Jabun. The Kapnos also comes with ice cream to offset the sweetness of the honey. Alas no Berliner but an enjoyable Greeker if there is such a thing.

ParticipantPresident’s Day ride. I suppose I should have drawn George Washington or Lincoln to honor their birthdays but this was more fun.

ParticipantHey everyone, not sure if you all are heading back to bluejacket but I am here and they are experiencing a water problem so will be shutting down soon for the evening. Will have to hydrate somewhere else!

ParticipantI’m sad I won’t be able to join the ride but would like to join for the after party. Sounds like you prob won’t get there till after 2? Will have to hear all about it afterwards!

ParticipantSad we somehow missed this! Would imagine it would have been difficult tracking down the flags for some of those island nations.
I have a friend that works at the Danish Embassy and he’s an avid cyclist. If we do Europe and get a group there, he may be able to give us a tour of the Embassy.

ParticipantNot quite sure how to make it red but happy belated Valentine’s!

ParticipantDon’t think we were to blame but the Dunkin donuts next to my work ran out of donuts today. Oh no, what is everyone going to do…

ParticipantStopped at 3 Stars last weekend. Enjoyed madness, ghost, and zombie date night. There seems to be some scary theme going on.
And Blue Jacket this weekend. Love the the huge space with all those vats. Got a flight of IPA’s and golden lager. Enjoyed the Full Fathom 5.

ParticipantOpps forgot to add the photo from Beard Papa’s. It doesn’t quite look like a beard.
Some other recent donut stops. Was at Right Proper Brewing the other day and saw they had donuts. Attempted to do both beerneuring and doughneuring by ordering both at the same time! They have an apple cinnamon donut. Was surprised to find slices of apple inside. It seemed more like a frybread or flambé.
Also stopped by the District Donut on Capitol Hill today and ran into Karen and her group. A taste off ensued. I got the peppermint patty and brown butter. Not sure which one they liked but I really liked the airiness of the brown butter.

ParticipantMy donuts for the extravaganza ride included a brownie batter and a blueberry glaze at Dunkin donuts. I liked the brownie batter particularly with the melted chocolate in the middle.
A mocha cake as substitute for gelato at Tiramisu.
Finally a stop at Beard Papa’s in Georgetown on the way home. I had never heard of the chain until Kate mentioned it. They have a churros donut called the Paris Brest that you can get with a cream puff filling.
Probably not as many as many of you that did the whole ride. Saving some room for the next one!

ParticipantGreat meeting everyone on Sat! I was a bit worried joining in the middle that I would miss everyone at Astro but it was hard to miss the big group of doughneurers. Here’s a photo of some us ordering donuts at stop #5.
And our bonus donuts from college park. Unfortunately I didn’t get a shot of a munchkin in flight.
And our free cookies at the last stop at Tiramisu.

Note that just before milepost 11 after you cross the bridge over Washington Blvd., you will encounter construction on the Rte 50 frontage road. Don’t ride on rte 50 itself! You can navigate around the cones and barrels and take the sidewalk on the frontage road that is under construction for one block to get to Fillmore.
(This information may be out of date; I have not been that way for a couple of weeks)
Was there this past weekend and can confirm that it is still under construction. As Steve mentioned you can ride on the side road and then along the sidewalk before you get to Fillmore.
I plan on joining around Astro.

ParticipantHey team, not sure if you saw the thread about the donut ride extravaganza on Sat. 40 miles and 6 donut places. The start is in Bethesda and the last stop is in Silver Spring but you can join in anytime. I plan on joining for the second half starting at Astro.

ParticipantAs a preview to the extravaganza this weekend, I hit Sugar Shack in Arlington on Sun. Who knew there was a Columbia Heights there! There is even a Massachusetts Ave in Viriginia. Played it safe and had the raspberry and the chocolate donuts. The girl scout Samoa one looked really tempting though.
Also stopped at Sticky Fingers, a vegan bakery in the other Columbia Heights, on the way in to work today. The stars aligned as they only have donuts on Tue and Thurs. Got the snickers, blueberry with lemon filling, and a strawberry cheesecake to share. Particularly liked the snickers. Vegan and good don’t always go together but these were all good!

ParticipantStopped by Breadfurst. Didn’t realize they had donuts so I picked up one of their chocolate gazed donut. Delicious if you like the doughy kind. It may be breadfurst but donutsecond!
