ParticipantThe more I ride around MoCo, the more that I find that it is a target rich area! I’m not sure if this community is called Fallsgrove but it’s at the intersection of Shady Grove and Darnestown Road. The pond doesn’t have a name but there is a sign and it is also on Google Maps!

ParticipantA descendant of Newton’s apple tree off International Drive in Van Ness. This is a descendant of the tree from which it is reputed that Newton saw an apple fall that inspired his musings on gravitational force. Another fun fact is that it is on the site of the National Bureau of Standards (now known as the National Institute of Standards and Technology) before it later moved to Gaithersburg.

ParticipantThe Kamala LA LA LA Tree on 17th St would still like to wish you happy holidays. A bit hard to see from a distance but it contains cut-outs of Kamala and Biden, and Biden’s style of aviator glasses among other ornaments.

ParticipantGSK or GlaxoSmithKline a big multinational pharmaceutical company. I don’t know too much about them under than they manufacture a lot of drugs and vaccines including the only approved malaria vaccine. I think it’s pretty neat that they have a vaccine center here in the area.

ParticipantEveryday I See Something New. A fun mural by the Marie Reed community center in Adams Morgan. I like how it incorporates various things in the neighborhood including Julia’s empanadas.

This might help with another view. Ride w/GPS has a couple of different maps to use. OSM Cycle (Open Street Maps), gives the clearest diagram of where it is. Still, none of them show the wormhole which means a) they really don’t want to encourage people to use it and b) that’s the perfect description of a wormhole! Nice find. We have a couple of these in my area that I use in dry summertime, but not when it’s already cold because they’re pretty wet!
Oh hey – not to dwell on this too much (I’m a map geek) I just found something. Google Maps, in the left sidebar, has an option for Bicycling. This is what it shows when I turn it on — the wormhole! Also, look at the bottom of the screen where there’s a legend as to trails. I guess the info is there, just not well described. Either way, looks like fun!
Nice find!

ParticipantAnother wormhole maybe? I call this the Wunder Garden Express. This is the little trail that connects to the south end of the MBT that is sometimes locked and allows you to cut across to L St rather than dropping off at M St. Not as convenient with a bike since you have to go down a flight of stairs but it allows you to go to the front of the line at Wunder Garten!

It looks like an actual worm wormed the hole. I like it. Where exactly is that? Can you give us Google/Strava map pic?
Here a couple of maps. I don’t know why but for some reason Google Map sometimes doesn’t show hiking trails so I’ve attached a running route when I found it (then later went back on the bike). The red is the hiking trail which you can also bike. The yellow is an alternative if you’d like to stay on a paved trail and road. The tunnel isn’t initially obvious if you aren’t familiar with the trail because if you are coming southbound, the trail sort of stops and you have to go down the road a bit before you see the path leading to the tunnel. If you are going northbound, the tunnel is on the other side of the trailhead parking lot. With this tunnel you cross Muddy Branch Road and cut across from Darnestown to Great Seneca without going further down to the Kentlands or Muddy Branch Road.
