ParticipantThe Foggy Bottom flowers. It’s in a neighborhood that is tucked between K St, I-66, and New Hampshire. You have to go through an alley called Hughes Mews and it’s on the back of a small house. With the little garden it seems like it would be lovely in the warmer months.

ParticipantA portion of the bike lane on M St between 18th and 19th St was “expanded” last year. It’s to give pedestrians more space to walk on that crowded stretch of M St as they would often end up walking in the bike lane defeating the purpose of it. Not a problem right now with many people still working from home!

ParticipantVolta Lab in Georgetown. Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, founded this lab to study technologies for the hearing impaired and one of the people that broke ground on this building was none other than Helen Keller! Another fun fact was that it was paid for by the Volta Prize established by Napoleon III in honor of the Italian physicist Volta which Bell won. This prize is intended to award extraordinary discoveries in electricity. It’s a unique building when you are biking up or down 35th St and I had always wondered why there was a park there called Volta.

ParticipantSpotted this frozen pond while wormholing from Wisconsin to Mass via the Whitehaven trail. I run by this all the time and had not noticed this before, probably because it’s usually hidden by the trees in the warmer months.

2/7/21 – Superb Owl (or a few alternatives)
There are occasionally owl sightings in Rock Creek. I think they would be difficult to find today so also went to Rooster and Owl to maximize the sighting!

ParticipantThe Einstein mural on 14th St. Instead of using chalk he is using graffiti to say E=mc^2. Einstein knows how to graffiti too!

ParticipantThe Einstein mural on 14th St. He is perhaps one of the most famous scientists with his theory of relativity.

ParticipantSpotted more “love in six lines” in the wild! The same artist currently has some on the scaffolding at the Dupont Circle metro station north entrance including this one of a couple on a tandem.

ParticipantThe Trader Joe on Wisconsin near the Naval Observatory has a mural in the style of their flyers. In addition to produce, wonder if they carry this bike. [emoji57]

ParticipantThe USNO master clock, which provides the standard time for the Department of Defense. Computers, cell phones, GPS, and many other devices rely on synchronizing their time to these clocks.
