ParticipantTake good care of that road rash or your surgeon may want to delay your surgery if there is any sign of infection near the incision site.

ParticipantThat bike (with rider!) was in the logo for BAFS 2016 Team 12 — The Cyclo-Paths.

I am pretty sure that is just euro speak for 700c.
I thought that would be “ISO 622mm”.

ParticipantIt would be interesting to know what percentage of bike commutes are caused by loss of drivers’ licenses (e.g., for DUI such as the gentleman in the article).

ParticipantNot in the store, but in use in Banneker Park along the W&OD.

ParticipantIn the spirit of helping everyone enjoy the trails as much as I do, I have a question related to this topic.
I like to ride fast, but also try to be PAL and not make stupid passes. This means I will catch up to other riders (and, of course, joggers/peds) and may need to linger behind them at their speed until trail conditions allow for a safe pass. It is generally fairly obvious to joggers/peds why I am doing this (e.g., much oncoming trail traffic, closely approaching a blind curve) and these instances tend to last for shorter times/distances anyway. With cyclists, it often lasts longer, and some riders frequently look back seemingly nervously (although I honestly can’t say that I’ve noticed women doing this more than men). I follow at a reasonable distance, but generally only say something, or ring the bell, when all looks clear and I am actually going to pass. When faster riders act in this way to me, I am totally comfortable and grateful for it.
Anything I can do to make people more comfortable without being misconstrued?

ParticipantThe office fitness center where I work has an “Office Workout Challenge”: office-by-office teams, points for each workout, more points for special activities (especially those that earn the management company more $$), etc. They don’t count my commutes, but I stretch and do some other exercises after my morning ride so I get points for my team. Today, I did the “triathlon” for bonus points: rowing machine, exercise bike, and treadmill. The sheer awfulness of it reminded me why I jumped in to Freezing Saddles this year instead of doing indoor aerobic workouts in the winter.
Spin class in a bus. This means you have a group of (potential) bike riders all going to the same place at the same time. Can anyone say “peloton?”
“Why??” indeed.

ParticipantPetal flurries, that is, although with these temperatures…
Dry winds should keep accumulations to a minimum. Don’t forget your sunglasses or other eye protection.

1. All this year I have noticed that ALL the vegetation anywhere near the power lines has been cut back, not just tree limbs or nearby trees. Shrubbery, scrub-like brush and everything. I understand the trees (but not how they actually trim them, so cruel when other shaping techniques can be used), but why everything else? Anyone know why? Just easier access to the wires? removing invasive plants? Just because they can?
Definitely “Just because they can.” This seems to be (the) DOMINION’s approximately decennial W&OD right-of-way desertification program. My mother deals with a power line easement on her property in another state, and the contractors have the exact same “must destroy everything on our path” mentality.
At least in my interactions, the guys working the W&OD have been courteous to trail users.

Please take the time to report on issues involving trails throughout the DC area, especially … around the Jefferson Memorial and East Potomac Park that requires some sort of rotary brush attachment or blower as are used in Arlington and by the NVRPA.
Probably need the heavy-duty end loaders to keep the trails clear of tourists.

Think they could do this in time for Bike to Work Day?
All because they went cheap in the first place and built only 2 tracks instead of 3 on each line.

…it’s a good idea to get in now so you know everything’s working correctly before the challenge period begins. The website gets a little worse every year.
The web site seems far from ready. The main widgets on the dashboard page don’t work (for me anyway), although it seems to have successfully scraped Strava for my ride data through yesterday as evident in the calendar and summary table lower down on the dashboard.
It would be nice if they brought back the “Find Me” link on the leader boards (not that we’ll need it to find WAAS on the Team Leader Board).

So, another good day to try for a lean angle PR while crossing the 14th Street Bridge.
