That’s kind of a spicy title for this thread… not normally what we’d expect when talking about a multi-use trail. If that’s why you clicked on this thread, you’ll be sorely disappointed.
I was dripping sweat all over Martha Custis this morning. Oh yeaaah.

ParticipantToday’s missed connection:
You were a construction worker on an ATV, about to cross the path along the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool to get from the staging area to the pool. You were looking to your right, chatting with the guy who is supposed to be directing traffic and keeping you from hitting me, as I approached from your left. I saw what could happen and gave you a wide berth – and sure enough, you pulled out without looking, and your dumbass buddy didn’t look either. But since I was looking out for you and your idiot buddy whose job it is to prevent just this sort of thing, you barely missed me.
If only I had been as stupid as you are, I could have met you up close and personal. Perhaps next time.

I finally saw my winter buddy people watching on the side of the trail today. He came right up to me for pets. And get this… The name on his tag is Hobo! Considering the trail used to be a railroad, it is a perfect name.
Glad we finally know his name. I still think “Glenn Carlyn” would have worked.

I already have a suspension seat post though nothing fancy. I didn’t try lowering the air pressure since I was afraid of getting a flat (I was running at about 75-77 psi – the tires max out at 80).
Oh.
Then my next thought is that you need a new suspension seat, or a new bike.

ParticipantYes, there is funnel cake, pig races, pie contests, rickety unsafe rides and ripoff carnival games.

I sort of doubt if my son will get a second date with this young woman.
Ah, but she will have a scar to always remember him by.

ParticipantGreat story. The magic of a bike.

ParticipantI’m by no means an expert on this, but my first thoughts are:
– yes, wider tires
– lower air pressure?
– a suspension seat post. You can easily install a seat post with a suspension spring in it. That’s probably going to work best.baiskeli

Booth wars!
Actually, there are some booth wars at our fair, like the abortion rights vs. anti-abortion booths, or Dems vs. Republicans, or Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) vs. Parents and Friends of “Ex-Gays” (PFOX). It’s entertaining to see how close their booths end up, and watch people walk past one and then the other. Only in Arlington. Most fairs have wars between farm animals.
If you really want a booth war, you could set up an “Arlingtonians for a Filthy, Disgusting Environment” booth right next to my wife’s.

ParticipantI will take a shift as soon as I coordinate the times with my wife, who has her own booth at the fair (Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment – stop by all).

ParticipantI had a bike stolen with a cable lock on it on the one day I forgot to bring my U-lock.
The old circular key U-locks are easily defeated too – throw those out and get a new one.

The bear was pissed he didn’t call his pass.
LOL!
But do you ever see bears call their passes? ? Or stop for a read light or stop sign? No. Bears have no respect for traffic laws. We should ban bears from the road.

ParticipantAs I was approaching that intersection this morning, I saw that I probably wasn’t going to make it over in time, so I stayed behind a very slow rider who wasn’t going to make it either, letting the guys who were speeding up to get through make it. AFTER the light turned, this slow rider proceed through the intersection, in front of the cars desperately trying to make the turn toward the Key Bridge, still going just as slowly. No rush, slow guy.

ParticipantIn any event, the police are now off Martha Custis, but lots of sweaty men are all over Martha Custis every day.
What? It’s true.

Did you find out what the citizen complaint was? Was it speed or someone going through a red light?
It was about bikes running the red there.
